Richmond, Virginia – Conrad Ten Eyck “Bucky” Lawrence, Jr., age 70, passed away on January 9, 2021. Born in Staunton, Virginia, on January 8, 1951, he was the son of the late Betty Wyatt Vint Lawrence and Conrad Ten Eyck “Buck” Lawrence.
After graduating from Riverheads High School, he attended and graduated from William and Mary with his Bachelors of Science in Geology and received his Masters from Eastern Kentucky. He worked most of his life remediating contaminated sites and lived in several states. His last move was to Richmond, Virginia, where he worked for O’Brien and Gere.
Conrad enjoyed reading, baking, woodworking and many other varied projects. He loved talking about his work and geology and never met a rock he did not love. He enjoyed the many large family gatherings at his childhood home (the farm in Arborhill), siblings’ homes, and the Lawrence Camp on Ramsey Gap Road. At the age of 17, he was part of a clinical trial using Cobalt radiation for Hodgkin’s Lymphoma at the University of Virginia.
Conrad leaves behind his wife of 37 years, Martha (Marty) Marshall Lawrence; five siblings – Wyatt L. Heisler (John), Louise L. Fountain (Lon), Mary L. Welliver (Kim), Cassius M. Lawrence (Rebecca), and Agnes L. Gallagher (Darel); and numerous nieces and nephews. Conrad will be missed by his family and by his two canine companions.
At this time due to the pandemic, there will be no services or visitation. A celebration of life will be held at a future date at the family farm.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Conrad’s memory to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
