Obituary of Cathleen Ann Poulsen
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Cathy Poulsen, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and dear friend. She departed from this world on July 12, 2024 after a 10 year courageous battle with cancer. Born into a proud Italian American family, Cathy embodied the spirit and resilience of her heritage. Her stubborn determination was matched only by her fierce love for life and her family. She lived passionately, never shying away from a fight, especially when it came to protecting and supporting her children, grandchildren, and basset hounds. Cathy leaves behind her devoted husband, Kevin who through 49 years of marriage stood by her side through thick and thin. She was the loving mother of Amy and Kyle, and the adoring grandmother of Vincent, Domenick, and Philomena Fett; and Cash and Beau Poulsen. Cathy also leaves behind a sister Natalie Rittlinger and brother-in-law David Rittlinger; and beloved basset hounds Pixel and Dory. Her family was her pride and joy, and she found immense happiness in their achievements and daily lives. She also found joy in music, law work, and cooking. As a friend, Cathy was a source of unwavering support and boundless energy. Her laughter, wisdom, and indomitable spirit will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. She was employed by the US Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. In her 15 years of service, Cathy’s many colleagues, both past and present, supported her through the entire cancer journey. They also helped her to enjoy her work every day nearly until her passing. Though her battle with cancer was long and arduous, she faced it with remarkable bravery and grace. Her strength and tenacity were an inspiration to all. She never gave up. A memorial service will be held from 4pm to 8pm on July 18 at Woody Funeral Home, Huguenot Chapel, Midlothian, VA. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Cathy to support cancer research at Cleveland Clinic through VeloSano.
