Alice Gleason Whitaker, 89, of Midlothian, widow of William Wesley Whitaker, passed away Saturday, November 26, 2011. She is survived by her children, Susan Whitaker Gaskill and her husband, Wayne, Cynthia Whitaker-Walton and her husband, Michael, Robbin Whitaker Turner and her two daughters, Amy Lynn Reinhardt and her husband, Mike, and Katy Ann Turner; also many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Mrs. Whitaker was a longtime, active member and Deaconess of Bethlehem Baptist Church. She retired in 1983 from the Virginia Community College System and enjoyed being there from its inception. She was a 25 year dedicated member of the Midlothian Garden Club. But paramount was her devotion to her daughters and family, gardening and conservation.
The family will receive friends 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Huguenot Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1020 Huguenot Rd. A funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday at Bethlehem Baptist Church. Interment in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bethlehem Baptist Church, 9600 Midlothian Turnpike, Richmond, VA 23235.
