Sharon Elizabeth Woods was born on June 20, 1940 to Ida Elizabeth and Franklin Earl Sitterly in Amarillo, TX. The Lord called her home on February 27, 2023. She was the oldest daughter, growing up with an older brother, Lewis and two sisters, Helen and Lois in Lubbock, TX. Graduating from Lubbock High School in 1958, she enjoyed studying Home Economics and attended Texas Tech University.
Attending the university, she met her husband of nearly 64 years, Rayford Woods of Kermit, TX at the Wesley Student Center of Texas Tech. The two married in Lubbock, TX on March 8, 1959. Settling down Midland, TX in 1965, they had three children; Becky Lynn, Jeffrey Scott and Steven Rayford.
She was a long-time member of St. Paul United Methodist Church. During her membership, she was actively involved in the youth group; known to many as “Mama Bear.” Actively participated in United Methodist Women; serving in several capacities including President and Treasurer, involved in missions ministries and later serving as the church Secretary for a time.
Sharon enjoyed cross-stitching, knitting and crocheting in her spare time. She cross-stitched many Christmas ornaments, that her family will cherish for many years to come. Knitting and crocheting blankets for grandkids, great-grandkids and friends brought her joy. Sharon had a passion for missions, she made many prayers shawls that were distributed far and wide through the works of the United Methodist Women.
Sharon, aka “Memaw”, was known to her family and church family for her cooking and baking. She cooked many meals on Wednesday nights for the church and hosted Sunday family lunch. Her sheath cake was devoured by many and was on prominent display as the “grooms’ cake” at her grandson, Trey’s, wedding. In 2008 she wrote her own, “Memaw’s Cookbook,” given to her family as gifts, another treasure they will enjoy.
Memaw loved her family dearly, working puzzles and playing Rummikub was a favorite pastime of hers. In her later years, she enjoyed playing Chicken-foot, go fish and working word searches with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
