Samuel “Big Sam” Allen, of Midland, passed away Friday, October 15, 2010. He was born September 24, 1933 in Tyler, Texas to Roy and Jean Allen. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After returning home, he met and married the love of his life, Inez “Sugar” Allen in Big Springs, TX in 1963. “Big Sam” worked in the oilfield as a driller. He was a very devoted family man. He helped raise Toby Allen, Tera Urban, T’Nee Allen, “Baby” Sam Allen and Lisa Allen. He enjoyed swimming, motorcycles and country music. He lived life to the fullest and was a great joy to his friends and family. He is preceded in death by his daughter, T’Nee Allen. “Big Sam” is survived by his wife, Inez “Sugar” Allen; children, Rena Stroud and Little Sam of Midland, TX; eleven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Wanda Newton of California and many nieces and nephews. Pallbearers are Little Sam Allen, Toby Allen, Baby Sam Allen, Stacy Stroud, Swade Stroud, Mike Urban, James Scarnici and Tracy Elliott. The family will receive friends Sunday at Ellis Funeral Home between the hours of 2:00 P.M. and 4:00 P.M. Funeral services have been scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Monday, October 18, 2010 at the Ellis Funeral Home Chapel with Matt Baird officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home.
