M.R. “Ray” Wood age 79 of Midland, passed away Friday March 26, 2010 at his home. He was born November 24, 1930 in Stratford, Oklahoma to William V. and Mary Lena Wood. He graduated from Shawnee High School in 1949. He married Beverly Beaman on June 15, 1950 in Shawnee, OK. They moved to West Texas in 1951 and retired from Phillips Petroleum Co. in 1992 after 41 years of dedicated service and became a permanent fixture at Stanton Old Soreheads Trade Days at the Tater Twister Tent where he was known as “The Big Tater.” Mr. Wood was a current and active member of Second Baptist Church of Midland where he had served as a deacon and was active with many church functions and activities. In his spare time he enjoyed Gardening, Golf and playing Dominoes with Fred. He also enjoyed watching his grandkids play sports and attended all their after school activities. He was known as a people person and never met a stranger. He was preceded in death by ten brothers and sisters. Surviving is his wife of 59 years, Beverly; three children, Danny and wife Debbie Wood; Pam Timmons and husband Mike; and Jill Williams all of Midland; his grandchildren, Tyler Timmons; Lindy Timmons; and Caleb Wood; his brother, Sam Wood and wife Neva of Campbell, CA; two sisters-in-law, Norma Wood and Alice Wood both of OK; and numerous nieces, nephews and close and dear friends. The family will receive friends at Ellis Funeral Home, Sunday, March 28, 2010 between the hours of 6:00 P.M. and 8: 00 P.M. Funeral services have been scheduled for 11:00 A.M. Monday, March 29, 2010 at Second Baptist Church with Pastor H.W. Erwin Jr. and Pastor Terry L. Chapman officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.
