She attended Texas Tech University where she received her Bachelor of Science in Home Economics. She belonged to the DFD social CLUB which is now Delta Delta Delta. After graduating from Texas Tech she moved back to Pampa where she met her husband, Bob Patterson. Bob worked as an accountant for Shell Oil Company and they were transferred to New York and New Jersey settling in Midland in 1954. Mary was the Kindergarten teacher at Jack and Jill and at one time First Presbyterian Church. She was also a member of Colonel Theumis Dye Daughters of American Revolution
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Cecillia Ann Newton.
Mary is survived by her daughter Mary Margaret Davis and her husband, Earl of Odessa, Texas. Also surviving are her four grandchildren, Jimmie Davis and his wife, Amy, and their children, JJ and Lexie of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Mary Gatlin and her children, Katelyne, Brandon, Alicia Dickson and husband Chris, and their children, Jace and Keegan; Chris Whitfield and wife, Christie of Lakeville, Minnesota, and their children, Molly, Cooper and Kendall: Charlotte Hall and husband, Barry of Little Rock, Arkansas and their children, Abby and Hudson: and her son-in-law, Brad Newton.
Also surviving, are her sisters Martha Smith of Higgins, Texas and Margaret Cowden of Midland, Texas and her sister in law Ida Ruth Price of Pampa, Texas and many loved nieces and nephews.
A viewing will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 3, 2014 at Ellis Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 4, 2014 at First Presbyterian Church, with Dr. Steven Schorr officiating.
