Born on September 24, 1957 Jon lived his early life in Indiana. He is survived by mothers Carol and Jane, brothers Mike and Andy, sisters Nancy and Becky. He is preceded in death by his father Ron whom Jon always admired and sought to emulate. Jon will also be greatly missed by the extended Decker/Blackwell family of countless cousins, nieces and nephews.
Dear to his heart is the family Jon loved. He is survived by: Doug and Cindy Decker and their children Jacen and Josh; Jeremy and Elizabeth McMellon and their children Tanner, Brodee, Cordyn and Kynli; Robert and Tara Decker and their children Madi and Baby Robert; and his daughters Stephanie Lynn, and Katie. He was known to enjoy cartoons with and without his grandchildren and was first in line, grandkids in tow, to the theatres. “Papa” as he was affectionately known came to every event and birthday party for his grandkids. He always encouraged his children and grandchildren in their walk with Christ.
Jon and Jari were married for almost 20 years. They loved to travel to rock concerts and found a special connection to the Pacific Coast. They nurtured a family that is forgiving and flexible and richly blessed. From Midland to Houston and San Antonio, Jon and Jari lived across Texas and made numerous friends. Friends Kristen Brown-Holder, Eian, Jonathan, and Seth Ebbe were Jon’s family away from home and made fond memories with him.
He had a smile that spoke volumes; it could be mischievous and caring all at once. No one could forget Jon’s award winning bar-b-que and culinary skills. When he spoke, we listened and we could count on him to tell us exactly how he felt. He was feisty, a jokester, genuine, faithful, and possessed a tenderness to rival his temper. Because of this we all know how much he loved us and there is nothing better a person could give. We celebrate having known him.
There will be a memorial service at the Ellis Funeral Home Chapel in Midland, Texas on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at 10:00 am.
