LTC (RET) Johnny Matt Morgan, 67, died Monday, November 15, 2010 in Temple, Texas. He was born November 6, 1943 in Hobbs, New Mexico. His greatest passions in life were his wife and family, his military service of 27 years, and the Texas community. Johnny graduated from the University of Texas at the Permian Basin with a Masters Degree in Business Administration and spent over 40 years as a Petroleum Engineer in Southeast New Mexico and West Texas. He was also a very successful small business owner while starting Texsign and Plastics. Growing up and living in West Texas, Johnny had a love for shooting and motorcycles. He was an active part of the Midland Shooters Association as a Range Safety Officer and NRA Instructor. He participated in the Patriot Guard Motorcycle Riders Association. Johnny was a proud member of the Presidents Pistol 100 and recognized as a Distinguished Pistol Shooter. He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Carole Morgan, of Midland, Texas. He has three children, SFC Michael Morgan of Fort Stewart, Georgia; Richard Morgan and his wife Kathy of Midland, Texas; Amy Sullivan and her husband Dale, of Garland, Texas. He is also survived by his parents, Frank and Faye Morgan of Midland Texas. Brothers include Frank Morgan and his wife Lu of Copperas Cove, Texas, and Tommy Morgan and his wife Gail of Austin, Texas. Johnny also had five grandchildren that he loved and cherished, Corey, Emily, Devan, Luke, and Kelly. Viewing will be Thursday from 4:00 to 6:00 pm. at Ellis Funeral Home in Midland. Services will be Friday, 2:00 pm at Sunset Memorial Gardens Chapel in Odessa, Texas, with graveside services to follow.
