Mom went home to be with our Merciful God after a short battle with cancer on February 20, 2013. Jan was born on July 29, 1950 in Hobbs, New Mexico to Bobbie Kennedy and Billy James Kennedy. She received most of her education in Midland then moved to Andrews. There, she ran the Conoco Café and waited tables at other establishments. In 1979 she moved back to Midland where she waited tables at the Sheraton Inn, Nita’s Café and other establishments, before becoming disabled with COPD. After raising her children she spent several years spoiling her precious grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Bobbie Sharp, her father, Billy James Kennedy, the love of her life, Jerry Lynn Gunter, one sister Joyce Hammond, and three sons: Robert Charles, Edwin Ryan and Michael Wayne “Bubba”.
Those left behind to honor and cherish her memory are her six daughters: Mary Ann Brashear and husband Brad, Holly Schneider and husband Mikeul, Paula Howell, Kellie Nandin and husband Armando, Tammy Harris, Brenda Furr and husband Bobby; eleven grandchildren: Terry York, Cassie York, Ashley Nelson, Dalilah Nandin, Vincente Nandin, Matthew Holocomb, Aaron Howell, Mindi Harris, Michelle Harris, Brooklynn Furr and Bobby Furr, Jr.; one great granddaughter, Katelynn Smith; brother, Billy Bob Kennedy; sister, Naomi Orman and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff on the 6th floor of Midland Memorial, and Compass Hospice for their care and compassion during this time. Family will receive friends on Saturday, February 23, 2013 between the hours 3:00-5:00pm at the funeral home.
