Surviving her are her husband, J. Ray Stewart, four children, Barbara and husband Bob Williams of Ruidoso, N.M., Larry White of Odessa, Texas, Sherri Lea and Richard Smith of Midland, Texas, Doris (Sparky) Stevens of Ruidoso, N.M. and many grand-children, great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
She and her husband J. Ray Stewart were married almost 51 years and were very devoted to each other. They both came to Midland in 1957, but didn't meet until many years later. When she and J. Ray met in 1965, she was working as receptionist for Stubbeman, McRae, Sealy, Laughlin and Browder law firm in Midland. She was a wonderful cook and loved having friends in for dinner. They owned a small ranch near Camp Wood, Texas for some 15 years where they spent as much time as possible enjoying hunting, fishing and "digging" for arrowheads. They moved to Ruidoso, N.M. in 1995 where they had spent many holidays for some 25 years. They lived there in the home they built and intended to be there the rest of their lives. But for health reasons they moved back to Midland in 2013 where daughter Sherri lives. They loved New Mexico and made many, many trips to Santa Fe 2 to 3 times a year; and Vermejo Park Ranch in Northeast New Mexico where they loved to fish every year for some 15 years. J. Ray hunted elk there many times. Doris loved Christmas and always "went all out" decorating the home beautifully, having all the children, their spouses and grandchildren present on those special occasions. She was truly loved by all who knew her and will be missed by all.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at Resthaven Memorial Park.
