George “Don” Phiffer left this earth to live in the house of our Lord on February 10, 2017. Don was born in Nashville, Arkansas on May 16, 1935 to Lyda and Roy Phiffer. He moved to Midland, Texas with his parents in 1950, during the great West Texas oil boom. He graduated from Midland High in 1953.
Don spent most of his life working and managing various retail stores. Don was a natural-born salesman.
Don served his country by joining the U.S. Army, serving in the USAREUP Berlin Brigade headquartered in Heidelbery, Germany in 1958. He was very proud to wear the Berlin Brigade Patch which was designed by General Eisenhower. He traveled all over Europe during his tour of duty and loved his country.
Don married the love of his life, Pamela Toler-Petty on December 23, 1961. Together they brought into this world four sons, Derek Phiffer, Devin Phiffer, Donald (Donny) Phiffer, and Doyle Phiffer. Don and Pam celebrated 55 years of marriage on December 23, 2017
Don was very active in local politics as well as local sports during the years in which all his boys were involved in Little League Baseball. Don served as coach and ultimately became the Vice-Commissioner of the American Little League Baseball for the Midland District and helped to form the Greater Midland Football League. He was a big fan of the Lee Rebel Football program and followed them long after his boys were no longer attending the school.
Don is pre-deceased by his parents, his only sibling, Leroy Phiffer, and his youngest son, Doyle Phiffer.
Don leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife, Pam, his sons: Derek, Devin, (wife Misty), Don, (wife Cassie), four grandchildren: Martin Phiffer, Ashley Phiffer Branum, (husband Lane), Jacob (Jake) Phiffer, Bailey Phiffer, and two great grandchildren: Kamden Phiffer, (son of Martin Phiffer), and Dylan Marie Branum (daughter of Ashley and Lane Branum). Also, his only brother’s children – Xan Phiffer Black (Husband Jeff) of Tulsa Oklahoma, Tanya Phiffer Latch (Husband Larry) of Cypress, Texas, and Zane Phiffer of Arlington, Texas.
Graveside Services for Don will be on Wednesday, February 15, 2017, at 11:00 a.m., Resthaven Memorial Park. Visitation with the family will be held at Ellis Funeral Home, 801 Andrews Hwy, Midland, Texas, from 6 to 8 p.m. on February 14, 2017.
