Clifford H. Sherrod, Jr. a highly respected bagpipe player in Midland, piped his last tune on February 21st. He was born at home on January 23, 1930 in Oklahoma City during a blizzard, to Lovell and Clifford Sherrod, Sr.
Cliff graduated from Oklahoma University in 1951 with a degree in Petroleum Engineering. The day after commencement he joined the U.S. Air Force. He flew F-86Ds out of Selfridge Air Force Base in Michigan, where he met Joyce Mersereau. They moved to Midland, Texas where he was employed by Humble Oil Company for seven years before going Independent. During that time, Martha, Andy and Mike were born. After the children graduated from college, Cliff and Joyce enrolled at Texas Tech, receiving Master’s Degrees in Arid Land Studies and International Development. They traveled extensively as missioners with the Presbyterian Church (USA) and with Global Volunteers teaching English worldwide.
Cliff was an active member of SIPES (Society of Independent Petroleum Earth Scientists), AAPG (American Association of Petroleum Geologists), the Santa Rita Club and the QB’s (Quiet Birdmen). He served on the Symphony Board and the Advisory Board of the Samaritan Counseling Center. He was a lifetime Presbyterian Elder, serving on all courts, local, Presbytery, Synod, and General Assembly. He also served on the Board of Directors of the Presbyterian Pan American School. He was also a founding member of the Celtic Heritage Society of Midland.
Cliff was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Joyce; brother, Dale; daughter, Martha; sons, Andy and his wife Carole and Mike; five grandchildren and four great grandchildren and counting.

A viewing is scheduled for Wednesday, February 22nd from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Ellis Funeral Home. There will be a graveside service at Resthaven Memorial Park on Thursday, February 23rd at 11:00 a.m. followed by a memorial service at Grace Presbyterian Church at 12:00 p.m.
