Charles W Green was born August 21, 1926 to Dewey and Ola Green in Coleman County Texas, and passed away Tuesday April 19, 2011 in Midland, surrounded by his loving family.
Charles graduated from Coleman High School in 1943 and was Valedictorian of his class. He enrolled in John Tarleton College in Stephenville, TX for 1 year. He volunteered for the Navy and served in World War Two in the European theater and was on the Battleship USS Talladega in the Pacific. He was present for the signing of the surrender of Japan to the United States.
After the war, he enrolled at Texas A&M University. He graduated in 1949 with a degree in Animal Husbandry. He received the Brewer Award for the outstanding Animal Husbandry Student.
He married Betty Jean O’Neal in Midland on June 8, 1951.
Charles came to Midland County as the County Agriculture Agent and served for 35 years until his retirement in 1983.
He was very active in the community; he was in the Kiwanis Club, served on the Midland Sesquicentennial Celebration Committee. He was president of the Livestock Association, was a member of the Midland County Farm Bureau, and Texas State County Agricultural Association. He served on the 911 board and he was a member and deacon of Crestview Baptist church where he served in many positions.
After retirement he enjoyed his grandchildren and working in his garden and growing his prized pecan trees. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and a role model for many.
Charles is survived by his wife, his sons Rick, Rance and his wife Kellye, daughters Becky and her late husband Steve, Karen and her husband Pat. Grandchildren are Spencer, Taylor and wife Dana, Cooper Madison, Trey, Courtney and her husband Chaise, Payton and Kade.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Leo, grandson Jordan and son-in-law Steve.

The family will receive friends at Ellis Funeral Home on Thursday April 21, 2011 from 6:00-8:00pm. The funeral service is Friday, April 22, 2011 at 10:00am at Crestview Baptist Church.
