Carol Ann was a lifelong resident of Midland, born at Midland Memorial Hospital on February 24th, 1962. She was proceeded in death by her loving parents Jack Ward Johnson Sr. (1990) and Alma Geraldine "Jerry" Johnson (2016). She attended Jane Long Elementary, Alamo Junior High School, and Robert E. Lee High School. After graduation, Carol Ann studied and received a degree from Dallas Christian College in Farmer's Branch, Texas. Carol returned to Midland after graduation to study nursing.
Carol Ann was a faithful follower of Christ, having attended the Christian Church of Midland during her formative years, and most recently was a member of The First Baptist Church of Midland. Carol Ann was an accomplished piano player, participating in events and recitals before the age of 10. Her budding talent was interrupted and her life was forever altered when diagnosed with a non-malignant brain tumor at just 12 years old. After surgery to remove the tumor Carol Ann developed lifelong severe, debilitating post-surgical complications. Her dedicated parents took her all over the United States in search of respite from the devastating tumor and surgery. Constantly in and out of the hospital, Carol essentially home-schooled herself through high school.
She achieved some normalcy when she attended Dallas Christian College. She was able to experience the life of a normal young adult for a few years, graduated, and came home to pursue a career in nursing. Accomplished in the classroom, the physical challenges of nursing were just too much for her. So she set about her adult life serving Christ and helping others. Carol regularly taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, volunteered for many charities in the Midland area, and was a 25+ year season ticket holder to the mighty Lee Rebels.
Carol loved her family and doted on her nieces and nephews as if they were her own. She got great joy out of watching them grow and become adults. Carol became a great Aunt in 2019 with the birth of Colin's daughter, Maddie.
Despite lifelong physical challenges her faith in God never wavered. She is in heaven today, her body healed, praising God, and reunited with her parents and faithful companions, too numerous to mention. We love you, Carol Ann, you meant the world to us, and we will see you again in God's time.
Survived by her big brother Charles A. Johnson, USMC and US Army, retired, and his wife Barbara Johnson, of Stockton, New Jersey. Also by Jack and Kathleen Johnson of Dallas, TX. Nephew Colin Johnson of Austin, TX, Quinn Johnson of Dallas, Tx, Griffin Johnson of Dallas, TX, niece Brynn Johnson of Dallas, TX, and grand-niece Maddie Johnson of Austin, TX, and her beloved cousin Melodie Lynn Goolsby, Fort Worth, TX.
Services will be held at the chapel of Ellis Funeral Home in Midland, TX on Thursday, January 5th, 2023 at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, you can donate to a charity of your choice in Carol Ann’s name.
