Bobby Ray Dyer

Bobby Ray Dyer, a long-time resident of Jal, N.M., died in Midland, Texas, on Nov. 5, 2013. Bobby was born Feb. 8, 1927, in Palestine, Texas, to Seale and Irene (Taylor) Dyer. He moved to Jal in second grade, later graduating from Jal High School and serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Bobby married Billie Armstrong on April 17, 1945, in Kermit, Texas, to whom he remained married for 68 years until his passing. He and Billie were the devoted parents of sons Bruce and Mike Dyer.

During his years in Jal, Bobby served his community in numerous ways, including as secretary and treasurer of the Jal Country Club for 25 years; member of Jal’s first hospital board; president of the Jal Quarterback Club; and secretary and treasurer of the Jal Methodist Church, including overseeing construction of the church’s current facility. In 1983 Bobby and Billie moved to Midland, Texas where they became members of St. Mark's Methodist church. After more than 40 years with El Paso Natural Gas, Bobby retired in 1986, spending time playing golf, growing roses, and supporting his beloved Permian High School Panthers.

Bobby was preceded in death by his parents, son Mike, and siblings Arthur, Erma, Daphana and Barbara. He is survived by son Bruce Dyer (Janna); three grandchildren Kelli Davis (Brett), Staci Clark, and Chris Dyer (D’Les); and six great grandchildren. Always at the ready with a witty joke and an infectious grin, Bobby was loved by all who knew him and will be deeply missed.

Services will be held at Jal Cemetery in Jal, NM at 2:30 pm Friday, November 8, 2013 Mountain Time. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Home Hospice of Midland, 901 W. Missouri Ave., Midland, TX 79701.
