Billy Joe served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1950 to 1953. He married Carolyn Kay Seely Goodson on November 14, 1953, and they were happily married for fifty-three years.
Billy was employed by Southern Made Donuts and by Knorr Furniture, before he worked for Merchants Freight Line for twenty-seven years. He was an avid sports fan and a coach for both Southern Little League and Northern Little League, and YMCA Football. He was also an exceptional Bridge player.
Billy Joe is preceded in death by his parents Leslie F. Goodson and Maggie Stansell Goodson; his wife Carolyn Kay Goodson; sisters, Ruby Kemp, Bobbie Blanton, Hilda Rey, Benny Jack Gee; brothers, Les Goodson, David Goodson, Tommy Goodson and Ted Goodson; as well as special friend, Nancy McGrael.
Billy Joe is survived by his daughters, Paula Maddox and husband Jimmy, Karen Butts and husband Bob; sons, Leslie Goodson, Wesley Goodson and wife Elsa; brother, Dan Goodson; nine grandchildren, and thirteen great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be James Maddox, Jeremy Maddox, Kevin Cole, Bryan Murray, Colin Wilson and Nathan Smith.
A visitation will be held from 6:00p.m. to 8:00p.m. on Monday, December 29, 2014 at Ellis Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 1:00p.m. on Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at Ellis Funeral Home Chapel, with Tony McCrohan officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven North.
