Joseph C. Kay

Joseph Crawford Kay was born in Greenville, South Carolina, on June 20, 1931, to Arthur and Lucia Kay, one of eight children. He and his family relocated to Middletown, OH, in 1940. Joe attended Middletown schools and worked for the City of Middletown in the Street Department for many years until his retirement. In addition to that, he was a self-made entrepreneur. Doing many things like moving people, hauling furniture and many other odd jobs.
Joe was united in holy matrimony to Charlotte L. Jackson, on August 20, 1950, in Middletown, OH, and to this union were born ten children. At the time of Charlotte’s passing the couple had been married 64 years. Joe was the patriarch of the family and an avid lover of music and dancing. Joe could really cut a step!!!!! He loved to raise grapes and make wine. Joe loved going to church and was a long time member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, where you could see him many a Sunday, dancing in the isle when the music was good and the spirit was high.
He was preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Lucia Kay, beloved wife, Charlotte, daughter, JoAnn Kay, son, Joseph Kay, Jr., and son, Paul L. Kay. Sisters: Ola King, Lula Hayes, Lela-Mae Marshall, Virginia Brown, Janie-Bell Williams, Sarah-Ann Tatum, and one brother, John W. Kay. Joe leaves to cherish his memory: his daughters, Charlene Kay of Atlanta, Ga., Cynthia (Mac) Moultry, of Middletown, OH, his sons, Gerald (Cindy) Jackson, of Middletown, OH, Arthur (Sandra) Kay, of Lebanon, OH, Ronald (Sheila) Kay, of New Orleans, La., William Kay, of St. Louis, Mo., Daniel (Melody) Kay, of Franklin, OH, and daughter-in-law, Constance Kay, of Cincinnati, OH, sister-in-law, Barbara Wolford, of Middletown, OH, and 19 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
