Friday evening, October 11, 2024, with family by his side at Mount
Alverna Village in Parma, Ohio.
Joseph was a devout Catholic and family man, dedicated to his wife of
67 years, Shirley Leinweber. He is survived by his wife Shirley,
sister Jean Glavan (Joseph) of Conway, SC; sons James of Latham, NY;
Lawrence (Lisa) Leinweber of Middleburg Heights, OH; Gregory
(Mariane) Leinweber of Troy, NY; daughter Linda (Robert) Sowko,
grandson Benjamin Leinweber, and granddaughters Emily and Kathryn
Sowko.
Joe was one of five children born to Emil and Dorothy Leinweber (Mary
Lou, John, Jean, James) in Cleveland, Ohio. As a young man Joe liked
traveling on his motorcycle and camping in many of the western
National Parks. He also served his country in the Navy from 1952-54.
He worked as a tool and die maker for his entire career. He worked at
Varbros Corp. in Cleveland from 1978 until he retired. Joe enjoyed
taking care of his yard, home and family, and going to Mass on
Sundays.
Joe enjoyed reading; he loved Reader’s Digest and the Liguorian
Magazine. Despite his lack of higher education Joe was intellectually
curious and mechanically inclined. He would ask his children
thought-provoking questions. He inspired his children to each graduate
from college, two earning Ph.D.s.
Joe spent his early retirement years reigniting his love of travel and
photography by vacationing on the Northeastern Coast with Shirley
while visiting family. He had a great love of old movies and trivia
and loved to share his favorites with his family. He will be deeply
missed.
The family would also like to express their appreciation for the
loving, professional nursing care Joe received at Mount Alverna
Village.
Come Celebrate Joe’s life Tuesday, October 15 from 6-8 pm in the
