Remembering Mike Cella

On February 4th, 2018, we all lost a piece of our hearts. Your mom lost her husband and you kids lost your daddy and even though he really wasn’t our son, we lost our son also. Our worlds will forever be changed by this loss. We are never going to forget him and the big smile on his face. We always see him every time we see you, because you were the best part of him. 

Your daddy had a tremendous love for you all and he was such a big help to your mom. He took care of her and loved her with everything inside of him. He shared that love when you both came this world. He was so very proud of you both and you could see it in his eyes. There was nothing that he wouldn’t do for all of you. The joy on his face when he would come home and see your faces as you ran to him and called daddy’s name was priceless. It didn’t matter if he was coming home from work or just to the store, his heart beamed with great pride. You all were truly his pride and joy!

No matter what we all tell you as time goes on, it will never replace him being there. Your daddy will forever be in your hearts and he will watch over you. His spirit will guide you as you go forward. You will do silly little things and I know your mom is going to say, “That’s what your dad always did.” She will say that with a smile and a tear in her eyes, and that will be ok because that’s a way for her to hold him again. 

So all we can tell you going forward, is to be great people and continue to make your dad proud every day!

Brother,

I don’t know what to say or any words that could even be spoken to say that would comfort anyone who is dealing with the loss of a great man. Especially for myself. 

Daily I think of you and the times we have had from HHN to living with my moms and passing out under the back of my dodge shadow when we drew all over your body with lip stick. I try to block out the thoughts of you not being there for your kids and Chrissy. I pick my kids up from school and boom your there on my shoulder telling me it will be ok because all I’m thinking as the tears roll down my face is you will never have the opportunity to pick them up from school anymore. 

Then I’m at my sons baseball practice and I walk away from coaching for a few minutes because your presence is there again, as you will never be able to teach your son how to play baseball.. Then, knowing it’s will be all ok you send my son over and he tells me, “dad are you ok?”.. I say yeah bud I’m just thinking of some things right now and will be back over there soon.. without blinking an eye he says “it’s ok to dad, mike is in heaven”...  whewww... It’s hard to even go around any train tracks or talk about anything with anyone outside the family about what happened.. I also know your here messing with me as I have not been able to get this on the page at all and you keep sending me error messages.... lol 

I love ya man and miss you daily like crazy. No matter what you will always be in my thoughts and know I will be here helping in any way I can with your family. DaddyMike, you were taken to soon brother.. Sorry for the rambling on about things some may not get but I know you do bro!!

As soon as you meet daddy Mike he instantly made you feel like you were family! Even though I only knew him a few years, he made it feel like a lifetime. The laughs we shared at family BBQs, and our yearly trip to Orlando for HHN,will never be forgotten. I pray that God will heal the hearts of all involved of the sorrow in time, and instill in our minds and hearts his smile forever! 

Michael was one of the happiest, kindest and loving people I have ever known. Even as a child he would always give the biggest hugs and make everyone laugh. He was so proud of his family and loved all of them so much. It is my hope that God and time will lessen the pain for Chrissy, Elena, Logan, Donna, John Paul, John, Rose and the rest of his family and friends. We lost a great man and he will be missed but never forgotten. Love you all, Aunt Mary, Steven and Jimmy.

I will always remember Mike as a family man. When Mike's mom and I would come down  from Delaware once or twice a year to see them we always had a good time. When Elena was born then Logan , it was always about having fun with the kids.

 We would go to the Jacksonville Zoo or the museum and in October the church fair to have fun and be together.

I know that Mike loved Chrissy, Elena and Logan like no other.
You could see it in that smile he had.  I just still can't fathom why this happened when Mike had everything going for him. Guess God had a purpose for Mike.

I've just finished reading all of the Beautiful tributes to Mike and my heart swells with sadness and joy. Sadness for the loss of you and joy for the Legacy of Love you leave behind. Christina told the story of your engagement and it brings me back to standing in that Hotel room... filled with joy and excitement for our Best Friend's getting engaged (There was never any doubt she would say Yes). We were a few drinks in and trying to remember a quote from Aristotle about two people meant for one another. We didn't have our smart phones to look up the answer so Christina and I went back and forth on what it said. We were about to scrap the whole thing and try to come up with something else when it clicked...."Love is Composed of a Single Soul Inhabiting two bodies". I've never felt truer words were spoken of anyone else I'd ever met than the two of you. Countless moments of mischief and fun cross through my mind when I think of Mike. Chrissy was the absolute Love of his life and Elana and Logan are his cherished Legacy. He was truly a Man among Men and I know his children will always feel overwhelming love and pride in their hearts for their Dad. I will cherish our shared memories. I'll remember that mischievous smile you gave your wife when you were flirting with her. I'll remember not only your laugh, but the sounds of laughter from everyone around you. I'll remember our shared suffering at the hands of our personal trainer and the fun we had getting our butts handed to us! I'll remember the light in your eyes when you spoke of your children. There was never a dull moment with you Michael Cella. From nights out with friends to engagements, football, more nights out, weddings and babies to a few more nights out, good family fun and a lifetime of cherished memories. I love you Kid.

Our hearts are heavy and our tears are flowing.
 I have so many memories of your childhood.  You loved to swim, ride your hot wheel ,roller skate and play ball. Your favorite movie was The Wizard of Oz. 
I remember when you went on stage at John Paul's Christmas play. You were so proud to be up on stage with the other kids.
I remember when you and JP screamed on the front porch to the cars driving by "My mom turned 30 today". I do not think you understood what 30 was.
I remember the Easter parade and the break dancing and your first home run at OPAA.
You grew into a wonder man, husband and father. I am so very proud of you.  I will miss your smile your sparkling eyes and your laugh.  I will miss your no nonsense humor and your sarcastic tone.
I promise to help Chrissy with your two beautiful children . Please know I LOVE YOU.  You will forever be in my heart.

I had several great times with Mike.  Two years ago we had such a good time at Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios. So many laughs that I will remember forever! However my fondest memories are all the times we got together with our families! To see the smile he had on his face every time we were with our kids is priceless and will never be forgotten. Mike always made us laugh and through great friendships I was glad to have met him and to have him and his family in mine and Samantha’s life.  We will always be there for his family for whatever they need down the road!

Mike was part of the safety committee in Jax Fl...he could always be depended on...very pleasant and smart young man...I remember we had an event in Winter Park , riding back in the truck how proud he talked about the renovations to his house n shower!  and how happy that made his wife...his family , kids and wife meant the world to him. Fly high Angel you have earned your wings...we will miss you.

Mike, Mikey, or what I like to call him when he started loosing weight Slim lol. Mike was a devoted Husband, Father, Son, Friend, Conductor and so much more to so many people who misses him dearly. Mike was my first assistant on my first regular conductor job he was young, focus, and determine to be the best at what he did at home and on the job. Elena looking at your dad as he lit up watching you as you introduced yourself to me and telling me about yours and his plan for the day was a look I had never seen him have except for when he showed the picture of little Logan. I said she isn't shy is she lol, he replied not at all this is my little lady. Chrissy,Elena and Logan, he is  only gone physically, when you smile he's playing a part when you laugh he's playing a part when you love it's because he loved he will always watch over you and be with you, keep the faith never stop praying and you will see him again. Be Blessed and remember you're loved. 

With so many memories how do you share just one? 
I can remember first meeting Mike while working at Damon’s restaurant. He was the cook and me and Chrissy were waitresses. Mike was constantly pointed out to me by Chrissy about how cute he was and so on. Long story short... they finally got together (thanks to my magic) ;) and have been inseparable since. 
Mike trusted me and Amanda with setting up a surprise engagement proposal for chrissy which entailed lots of drinks at the beach and sneaking away to a hotel to light candles and throw rose pedals all over the bed  etc to set the mood for when he popped the question. When Chrissy asked where we (myself and Amanda) went since she caught us coming off the elevator from the hotel room, Mike’s eyes got big and I blurted out I had to poop &  at the same time Amanda blurted that I had to puke.  So I took one for the team and said “yup I had to poop and puke”. Quick thinking on our parts I must say. Lol. That was a night to remember for sure. 
Over the years I have spent Christmas, Halloween and other holidays  with Mike, Chrissy and their family. Have had many nights out drinking and dancing. Boy could Mike break it down lol. We’ve all grown up together over the years and have been a big part in each other lives. Who knew working at a restaurant would be the start of something bigger.?! We had our own show called FRIENDS!
Anyone who knows me knows I ALWAYS make goofy faces and stick my finger up my nose for pictures. Mike was my partner in crime with these kind of shenanigans. We all had so much fun over the years and there was never a dull moment with him. 
To know him was to love him! By marrying Chrissy he married all of us (you know who I’m talking about) All of our drama and craziness.. he was always along for the ride. 
Mike we love you and you will always be in our hearts. Thank you for for being you and blessing us with your friendship and love throughout the years. 


How do you say goodbye to someone you have known since the day he was born?  You diaper them, they play with your kids like brothers and sisters, they stay with you for a while, you see their beautiful smile, you watch them grow up, become boyfriends, husband and the best dad ever!  Then in a instant, without any warning, they are taken from you.
Even tho he lived in Florida and I didn't get to see him much, he encouraged me to keep going to the gym to loose those inches and lbs and I would egg him on too, so that he kept working out.  I was so proud of the man Michael became.
I pray that Chrissie, Donna, JP, John, Ma Rose and the rest of the family can find some peace in all the loving, wonderful memories they have of Michael.  He will live on through the lives of his children and will forever be loved and missed.  Sleep in peace Michael.

I would never have thought we’d be on this path in life so early on. From that very first moment I met you a little spark grew. Yet, you were mean to me at first! I remember I came out of that kitchen and was like, wow what an (I’m sure we all know). But, you grew on me. That smile, oh that smile! Dancing and singing like no other in that kitchen. From our first flirts, first laughs, real conversations, to secret dates. All the things started to fall right into place. The very first time you said “I love you” and I was too scared to say it back, but I was so head over heels for you! Although, you knew that from the very beginning. Days to months to years & then you finally asked me to marry you. To when we said I DO! Then we started our family. You were so excited and over joyed when we found out we were having a baby. That smile of yours said it all. Tears too, both of us! Our sweet babygirl, Elena made you an even better person then you already were! You were up for every challenge every step of the way. She had you wrapped around that little finger of hers the moment they placed her into your arms. Then little baby Logan made his way to us. What an adventure he gave us! He’s just like you! His smile & that laugh, All you! And that’s all I see is you when I look at them. You! 

You have impacted so many people. I got almost 17 incredible years with you. You’re my best friend, my soul & I will never understand why life has played out this way. My heart is broken. Each day is a new day closer to you.

Babes, my promise to you. I will always love you! Always! Elena & Logan love you! I will continue to love and guide them. I will finish what we started and what we wanted for them.  I will tell them all about you, all the time! I know you’re here with me now and I know you’re with our beautiful kids. Oh how we love you! They miss you so much, I miss you so much! I LOVE YOU.

This letter is addressed to LOGAN +ELENA. I have worked at Amtrak for 24 years, most of those years as a locomotive engineer. Many times I have worked with your dad ,He was  a passenger conductor(by rule that mean't he was the crew boss) . Your dad was the ultimate professional at all times,oftentimes under difficult circumstances. The way our job's were set up ,sometimes you didn't know until you arrived for work who the conductor would be for the trip you were about to take. I was  grateful when it was your dad,it was less stressful having a guy that knew his job well and always performed at the highest level. Your dad and I never socialized on a personal level , but he oftentimes spoke glowingly when asked how the family was. It was obvious he was happy to be a husband to your mom and to be your dad. I'm sorry beyond words that you have to grow up and live your life without him , I know that he loved you as much as any father could love his children.  Sincerely, Steve Thigpen

What I wanted you to know about Mike Cella;
About 5 years ago I started working for Amtrak. In training class up in New Jersey, I met Mike's best friend Tobias. On one of our days off from school Tobias & I went over to see family members of Mike's. I met Mike's mom, dad, brother and a few others. I was a stranger in their home but felt very welcomed. They fed me, had a beer with them and just listened to the stories they had to share. I thought then if these people were this nice to me Mike would be too and I wouldn't have any trouble making a new friend. When I got back to Jacksonville and started my on-the-job training, Mike was one of the conductors that would be training me. As inviting as his family was up in New Jersey, Mike was the same. He was very dedicated to his job but at the same time had a good time doing it. There are many railroad stories I could share about Mike, but him being such a down to earth guy was the most memorable thing I would remember. I will miss you Mike. 

Where do I begin,

Mike...you are an incredible man. You are a man every brother would want for his sister, a dad every uncle would want for his niece and nephew and a man that people inspire to be. I’m proud to call you my brother and honored that you chose my sister to give your all to. Your love and devotion to your family was genuine and pure. 

You showed me what’s it’s like to be kind hearted and easy going. Watching you dance with the kids, doing Elena’s hair in the bathroom, seeing your infectious smile, hearing your laugh, watching you wrestle with your nephews, never taking yourself to serious and showing my sis how much you loved her. You could see your love for her was pure; the way you took care of her, was patient with her, the way you looked at her, the list goes on. 

My only complaint is that I didn’t get more time with you. However, I’m eternally grateful for the time I did. When I look back at the memories, my heart fills with joy and an uncontrollable smile takes over my face. Know that Chrissy is incedibly strong and she loves you unconditionally. Elena and Logan are beautiful kiddos and we will always keep you alive in their hearts and minds. They love you so much. It’s comforting to know you’re still there for them and watching over them. 

I’m happy I got to tell you that I was proud to call you my brother in-law. You are an amazing human being. You are with us in our hearts and minds. We love you.

I remember you coming here to Alaska and us going out on adventures. I loved going to Hatcher Pass and the glacier. I remember you wrestling with us and Cove and I would kick your butt. haha The hike to Thunderbird Falls was fun too. I miss you and love you so much!

I loved coming to Florida in November and going to Universal. That was a lot of fun! One of my other favorite things was going to that trampoline jump place. It was fun when we'd all jump in at the same time into that air pillow thing. Then we'd all sink down and Gavin and I would climb all over you. I love you uncle and miss you.

Oh Mike
Where do I begin. I find myself going about my day with the daily distractions and then I remember, again, and I get that punch in the gut feeling all over. My hearth literally aches that you are no longer here and my heart shatters for your amazing wife and kiddos. Oh how I love you all so. Whats comforting at the same time is thinking of the fun times we've all had and a smile comes across my face or think of something you said or did and Im laughing (think car and Beyonce). That right there is what I hang onto. I can't explain how beyond grateful I am that we had just come for the month of November and shared that precious time with you. Our friends back here in Alaska ask us how our Florida trip went and I'd beam with how fun it was and how many bottles of wine you, me, Chrissy and CJ went through. lol I love how the four of us could sit there and laugh at stories and also sit quietly listening to each other in deep conversations. You were so light hearted and could make anyone laugh yet could sit with someone and make them feel valued by engaging them and truly listening to what they had to say. Your love and patience knew no bounds. I watched you with your sweet little family and I was so proud to call you my brother in law. And your nephews! Oh your nephews, how they adored their uncle and still do. This last trip in November  for them too was just a great bonding time with you, Auntie, Elena and Logan. We will forever cherish that time and it makes my heart happy to know they are old enough to hold those memories in their heart and remember them. The other side of that coin is that your loss has hit them harder than I could imagine. Their little hearts hurt for you and yet again, we talk about stories and you wrestling with them and being silly and I find us crying happy tears. Thats what I want for us, cry cause we miss your bright eyes and big heart but end it with happy tears from talking about you : ) I love you and know I hold your three close.

  What's not to say about Mikey.  Hands down one of the nicest, loving, sometimes aggravating goober you'd ever meet.  I  was fortunate to work with him on the south end for a while. Professional, on point, and always fun to watch work- is the best way I can describe him.  Crissy, thank you so much for loaning your husband to us for so many days each week. It has be a true blessing to get to know him, and through him yourself and y'alls two beautiful children. Know that you guys have a life-time family of brothers and sisters here just a call away.

Like I wrote when I first heard about what happened to my baby brother I don't know were to start. He was a great man that knew what he wanted and went after it full ahead!!! I'm sorry for his wife Chrissy and daughter Elena and son Logan.  Also for my mother Donna and father John and the rest of his family. Which is too many names to out on here cuz everyone he meet was family.  I will always remember our goodtimes growing up always having fun no matter what we did.  He wasn't just my brother he was my best friend. Always there when I needed anything.  I will miss him forever. I want to thank all the Amtrak family for everything they have done and continue too do. I love u bro always rip!!!!

It's been almost a month since your brother called me about what happened. Every day since has been very difficult. As I drive around OP and Jax, memories come back to me. From Jennifer Green Apts to Summerbrook, River Road to Madiera Drive, from the courts at 220 to all the gyms we played hoops in with FSA; winning that championship is now even more sweet! It's so very difficult to even think that you're gone. 

As the youngest out of us all, you were the most grown up. Every time we came up with something stupid to do, you were the voice of reason advising us that no good could probably come from whatever it was. Nevertheless, you were always there for us and most of the time with us! No matter how stupid, how difficult, how illegal, or how wreckless we were, it was comforting to know that you never judged! Man I miss you so much! JP, Mitch, Tobi, and I are hurting so bad. I know -- we know -- that our pain will subside over time.. but man, it truly doesn't feel like it will. Every rising day is a challenge and the nights are even more difficult; I find myself finding an excuse to just drive around the city to remember some of the crazy times we all had together. From OP to the Beaches, Savannah to Orlando.. so many great times! Another memory just kicked in... Savannah with everyone plus we had Anthony, and Demps too.. St. Patty's Day! Great Times!! Aaargghhh... this is what I mean... something always makes me remember the crazy times we've had!
 
Mike, I'll never forget you bro! I'll always keep Chrissy, Elena, and Logan in my prayers! JP, Tobi, Mitch and I will do anything for your family! You know that!! I thank you for being you always! I thank you for taking me in as a friend and eventually family! My man Daddy Mike!! I will always miss you! Thank you for your character, humbleness, honesty, and candor! You are by far the standard by which a great friend is measured! I will always miss you and I love you!

My best friend and brother, Mike, lost his life far too soon.  And it’s sad he isn’t here with us anymore however, we should not focus on the grief but, instead, celebrate his life.  

I first met Mike in August of 1991. The first thing he said to me was, “My brother is fast and he could beat you in a foot race.” So I said, “LETS GO!!!”  On that walk back to his side of the complex, we talked, laughed and he told me his story of why he moved to Florida and he was happy about it because he hated the cold. Man, now that I think about it, even then Mike had that same smile and crazy laugh. That day I had no idea I was gaining such a great friend in life and a brother! I’ve learned so much from that man, and he has inspired me in many ways. I knew if I was having a bad day, I could always count on ol’ DaddyMike, as we all use to call him, because he always wanted to be in charge, even though he was the youngest of the group. The thing is, he was always thinking and he was keeping all of us out of trouble. He would yell at us afterward and say stop being such idiots. Mike never changed who he was. He was never fake. The guy has always been the same person and, as many know, there were no games when it came to him. Mike  was a dedicated and loving husband and father. He always spoke highly of his family and loved them more than anything in life. Whenever I spent time with his family, I could tell how much they loved each other. I will always be there for Chrissy, Elena and Logan for anything they need. I know that it will be very difficult for everyone going forward without Mike in our lives, however, I also know that Mike would not want us to be overwhelmed with sadness. He was a very strong and positive individual and would always look for the best in any situation and would want us to do the same. I’ll remember Mike for all of his great qualities and appreciate the time I spent with him. We should make sure that his memory lives on in all of us for as long as we live

Mike and I only worked together a few times, but only because he moved to a regular job early on and I stayed with the extra board.  However during the times we worked together he was always so happy smiling or laughing cutting up with everyone.  Just one happy man.  Wasn't long before Mike was holding a Conductor job JAX-MIA, and at times I would receive the train from Mike.  Mike always laughing ready to get home to his family.  My last memory of Mike which I'll remember the rest of my days is Friday February 2nd 2018 when him and Preston brought 97 in around 0851.  So early my JAX-MIA crew had just sat down to brief.  I remember joking with Mike asking if he was sure they stopped at Savannah, and like he always did with a big smile and laughed saying "I Think So."  Chrissy it was such a pleasure to know Mike, and please always know Rhonda and I are just a block away.   

Mike, man, it still feels surreal that you are not here anymore. You seriously were one of the best guys I’ve known. Always smiling and being silly, trying to make everyone else smile and laugh...and your laugh...pretty sure anyone that has ever heard it will never forget it. It was contagious. I know I won’t forget it. More than that though, you were just an all around great guy. I’ve known you since I was a teenager. I never would have imagined all those years ago when you used to come visit J P, Tobi, and Mitch on Madeira Drive that we’d grow up to share many memories together. Boy, did you used to get down on the dance floor! You and J P throwing down...the best!! Working together at Damon’s...you and Tobi made working there so much fun...some of the best laughs ever! You met your wife there! Then we grew up to have kids of our own and I’m so glad I had the opportunity to see you as a father. One of the best dads ever. I’ll never forget you letting my little Charlie man fall asleep on you after partying hard in the pool. It was the sweetest and the picture Chrissy sent me is one I’ll keep forever.  It breaks my heart that I’ll never see you again but I will always remember you, Mike, and you will live on through Chrissy, Elena, and Logan. We all miss and love you, buddy. Mike, for the life of me, I will never understand why such a loving husband, caring father, loyal friend and all around great person left us all so soon. But, as I’ve heard, you’re not supposed to go looking for answers. I remember the first day I met you. You had just gotten in from Delaware and were passed out in your and your new roommate, Tobi’s, room. I’m pretty sure I’d accidentally woken you up and you kind of growled at me and left me worried with how I deal with Tobi’s one mean friend! But how wrong I was. And how glad I am that that first impression was so inaccurate. You were the complete opposite. One of the nicest, sweetest, funniest guys I’d ever met. Nowhere is there a memory of you that doesn’t include that trademark smile and your bright eyes. A similar pair that I see when I look at your sweet baby girl. And your laugh. It’s an instantly familiar sound to all who have heard it and there’s no other like it (though I’m pretty sure I’ve heard a familiar sounding giggle from your handsome little man). So many great times and so many laughs. From all the many, many nights when we all would go out dancing to when we all finally grew up and got together with our growing families, every event was always such a great time. I’ve known you almost my entire adult life and there are so many memories that include you. I could never pick just one, but it breaks my heart to know we won’t make any more. I am never going to understand the unfair events in life and this one is going to take some serious explanation. Whatever the reason, whatever the logic, through sorting out however this incredibly heartbreaking thing is supposed to make sense, know that we will always be there for Chrissy, Elena and Logan. Love you and miss you always! 

As the secretary for the trainmen and engineers at the Jacksonville Crew Base, I had the opportunity to interact with practically all of the employees in our department each week.  Michael Cella was a conductor who was an absolute joy to work with.  There was never a time when he did not either volunteer or simply take on a task that he was asked to do.   He single-handily taught every conductor and assistant conductor how to use the E-Ticketing Mobile Devices when they were first introduced.  He volunteered to be an ambassador for Amtrak in order to provide support during planned customer surges and unplanned emergencies.  He was instrumental in helping the Recurrent Training staff in a project that they needed assistance with.  As so many have said before, he was simply a man who loved his family.  And at work, there was never a harsh word and he always had a smile on his face.  He was loved by everyone and we will miss him dearly.  I pray, Chrissy, that you and your entire family know that we love you all and sincerely hope that you will eventually find peace.

First of all, I pray you always remember your dad as you grow older.  He will always be remembered as someone who loved you and spoke of you often.  I inadvertently went to your mom and dad's wedding.  I was playing golf with a dear friend of mine at the Orange Park Country Club.  He and I walked into the bathroom and; well, what did we see ?  None other than Mike in a tux getting ready for his marriage and commitment to your mom.  It was a surprise to see him "outside the workplace" and not in uniform.  Nevertheless, we, of course harassed him a little and wished him the best of success in his marriage.  He was looking forward to getting married and starting a family and entering the next chapter in his life.
I had the pleasure of working with him for several months on the same crew.   He was such a pleasure to work with and be around.  We spoke of our children, wives, and job.  We spoke of sports.  He often asked us (the engineers) if we needed anything or would like anything?  And he would not hesitate to bring us coffee or whatever.  I found out he was a Washington Redskins fan and also a Philadelphia Phillies fan.   I wanted to give him a Christmas present the year we worked together.  I was able to find a Redskins pacifier "so the baby could be raised right" and a Phillies Christmas ornament.   So little of a gesture but I will always remember the look on his face.  
Although I moved on to Sanford I would often run into Mike in Florence SC upon our arrival.  The last time I saw him, I hugged him and asked "how are the stars of Facebook?"  Meaning, you two.  He always had the biggest smile on his face when I asked that question.  In retrospect,  I certainly would've hugged him longer and spoke with him longer on that Tuesday night.  I will miss him but my feelings will never compare to the pain y'all  will go through.  Always, always know he loved your mom and you two tremendously.   I pray God blesses you through your life.

Mike and I worked together for a short time.  He always had a smile on his face and made the people around him have a smile on their faces as well.  I always looked forward to our work week starting  because he and I would clown around.  Mike was a great guy to talk with when you had a problem and problem solver when you needed help. He was a friend to me and he will be greatly missed... 


Mike and I worked together off and on for several years.  In that time, we developed a friendship that went well beyond the usual "workplace acquaintances."  Anyone that worked with us or was around us for very long knew two things:  One;  we worked really well together and two;  we were horrible to one another.  We said awful things about each other all the time.  For example, he would say how terrible I was at being an engineer or that I was a disappointment to my wife and I would in turn, make fun of his goofy laugh or his "silverback gorilla" looking physique.  This would go on and on until one of us said something so vile or off limits that we would inevitably crack and would both just double over in laughter.  We were like typical brothers. I have heard that said about Mike many times over in the past few weeks. It was a talent of his...He had the ability to make everyone around him feel like family.  I am no exception.  Mike was a Superhero.  He was the father I want to be and the husband that I strive to be everyday.  His goofy laugh was a target of many of my sarcastic attacks but the truth is, I loved it. And much like his laugh, I will miss him everyday. Although I may be sad and even angry at times, I am also very grateful that I had the opportunity to get to know Mike and be a small part of his life.  So rest peacefully, my brother. Your memory will live in my heart for the rest of my days.

Mike was the conductor I spent a majority of my time with at Amtrak as his a/c . We never, ever, had a dull moment. Our engineers said they were going to leave our job because of all of the crazy things that seemed to happen to us. Through everything, Mike was a professional and had the back of everyone he worked with. He can also, I found out,  yell pretty loud which came in handy on a few occasions.  He was fearless in the face of adversity,  not backing down to anyone for any reason. I got to know what type of person Mike was, a man of integrity,.character, honor and so loyal and loving towards his family. This was evident every trip. I know you must be feeling such a huge void and my heart aches for all of you. He had such a huge presence about him. You will remain in my thoughts and prayers always. 

I worked with Mike, my first memory of him was not that great. He and his buddy Jim Cassell stuck me in the baggage car Thanksgiving weekend to Miami. I had no idea what I was doing and they knew it. I refused to whine about it and did the best I could. Later on I realized how bad I'd done but I just stuck with it. I earned his respect. Once Mike knew you, he was a loyal friend. I heard him stick up for me several times after that. Mike did not give his friendship easily, but once he did you had a true friend. Mike was proud of his job and being able to provide for his family. He bragged about his wife and his children. You could see the love in his eyes, and hear the pride in his voice when he spoke of them. Some men tease and rag about their wives and family. Mike never did. He was a good man, I miss working with him and my heart aches for his family. Please know you were loved. 

Mike was one of my favorite conductors to work with here at Amtrak.   He protected his fellow employee like a brother,  and that's exactly what his relationship with all of us became.   He would stand up for you,  pick on you,  and joke with and about you.   That's what made him approachable,  his charisma.  Mike knew what he was doing out there.   He knew how to fix systems,  change a hose,  and he knew his rules.   I always trusted Mike as he knew and showed he trusted me.   I enjoyed the days we had together as well as the passengers we got to put off the train for being ridiculous.   My thoughts and prayers go to the entire Cella family.  Know that we will always be your family here at Amtrak. 

Over the years that I knew Mike he was a colleague who was never afraid to express his feelings, and always quick witted. In the time that I lived in Orange Park I'd run into him around town, usually at Publix or Sam's Club. One day I was walking out of Sam's with my groceries and someone behind me yells, "FLORIDA STATE SUCKS." I looked down at my shirt, and while there's a lot of Garnet & Gold in my wardrobe, I wasn't wearing anything FSU related that day. I turn around and it's Mike hassling me. We had a good laugh, and that became the regular thing when he saw me but I didn't see him around town. He always had a smile on, and that's the way I'll always remember him.

When I read about the loss of your dear Michael it touched my heart deeply.
My family used to live in Middleburg Florida also and my uncle was a 
Conductor for Amtrak for many years and traveled that route also.
I lost my brother at a young age also and the only thing that comforted 
Me was these few Bible verses. 2 Corinthians 1:2&3; John 5:28&29; and 
Revelation 21:3&4. They speak of comfort, Hope, and peace. 
I pray you will look them up and keep them close espically when things seem 
Unbearable.

Micheal was an amazing man.  My #1 conductor.  We met in conductor school and I appreciate the friend that he became.  Thanks buddy for allowing me look over on your paper so I could pass that test. I couldn't have done it without you. (a few times in block trng LOL)  Thank you for the memories you allowed me to share with you, The wedding, The babies, The laughs, The sweat & The frustration of railroad life.  Remember when paxs would walk up to you to make a request after I told them no and you would respond "She's the nice one".  They use to just cringe at us. LOL. But we held down our trains.  Memories. Oh so beautiful.  Well God gave you to us if only for a short time. And I will cherish those moments forever.  If only you knew what an impact you made on our lives and the sadness that is left behind without you. Your smile will be one that I will never forget. I don’t think anyone could forget it. I have learned that there is no better time than now to chase my dreams. To do all I can while I have the time — and unfortunately, your passing showed me this. I pray all the time for your family and friends, and I pray that you are in Heaven finding your way.  I wish I would have been able to say goodbye to you.  While it’s a tragedy to have lost you, I’m grateful for the time we did have.

 Chrissy, words cannot convey how much Mike  loved you and his children. His love for you and his family, was evident to everyone who knew him. He was always such a pleasure to work with, a consummate professional. As an engineer by myself on the head end, knowing that Mikey was in control and diligently attending to his job  back on the train, made my job much less stressful.  I can confidently say, that everyone who knew Mikey, will miss him and that smile of his.......the one that  lit up the world around him. If only we all could be so fortunate, as to leave such a wonderful legacy. Godspeed my Brother.

"When someone you love becomes a memory, the memory become a treasure"....When we think about Mike the one thing that always sticks out in our mind is he always had a smile on his face. Mike would always be there if you needed help or something done. Mike would especially light up with that big smile when he talked about Chrissy and the kids you could tell the love he had for them. No words can describe how sorry we are for your loss our thoughts and prayers are with you.

For the short time I knew and worked with Mike in Jax he was always a positive source of encouragement as I tried to navigate my way through a totally different environment from what a city boy was used to. I wish I were given more to spend around him as he was full of charisma! He will be surely miss and I regret never having the chance to personally say thank you to him for embracing me in my time of transition.
May God be with Mike and his family and keep them strong in this time of grief.

Mike was such a great guy.  Face would always light up when I asked him about his family. The love he had for his wife and kids was very apparent. At work He would joke around to break the monotony of the same old daily routine.But once the train started rolling he was the consummate professional. New his job very well and was highly liked and respected by all. Chrissy much love and prayers for you and the kids and his extended family.

Our bright light, shinning star you are missed.  It has been such a pleasure seeing your smiling face during some of our longest exhausting runs. Mike would always smile and it was immediately  better. Christie,  i wish you peace love support and a bright smile to see you through your darkest hours. It's all the things Mike gave us. I work with a sub contractor for Amtrak. I transported Mike to and from the motel weekly in Florence, S.C.. Over the years I have come to know Mike not only as a friendly, good man but a man who loved his wife and family. I know your eyes are swollen from the tears you have shed, the pain in your heart, the hurt in your stomach and the loss of your appetite. I imagine you feel the tapestry of your life has been destroyed. But, if you reach way down inside, down beneath the pain, the agony, the loneliness and hurt, way down at the bottom, back off to the side, hidden well in a corner, is courage. If you can bring that courage to the top you can use it to keep your chin up and move forward. Dear Lady it does get better. Yes, you will always miss, remember and love him but, it WILL get better. It doesn't happen over night but, it does come. At first the sight of that empty chair at the dinner table stings, the unoccupied seat in the family car and the loneliness of your bed. All these reminders hurt and they will for some time. But, it does get easier with time, I promise. I wish there where some magic words to say to take that pain away now, but sadly there is not. Try to take some comfort in knowing that Mike spoke of you and his family often. He loved you! He was liked and will be missed by hundreds of people associated with Amtrak.  I am so very, very sorry for your loss.

My heart has been heavy with sadness I was awakened about 3am Sunday morning by a loudness and began praying not knowing what had happened until later Sunday morning  I  live n West Columbia & I can hear the train whistle when it blows . My brother who is a Deacon Minister had ridden the same train a yr ago on this date to get back home to Jax and I know The Lord was present in the midst of this tragedy I am very sorry for your loss of your dear husband and the father of your children  I am praying for God Almighty  to comfort each of you everyday .
