John was born in Springfield, Ohio on November 6, 1935, to Wilbur Shatto and Mary Campbell Shatto. He was the youngest of eleven siblings and is survived by his sister Ruth (Hank) Corbitt of Phenix City, Alabama. John married Paulette Bette Isaac on November 16, 1963 who preceded him in Heaven, with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
John served 20 years in the US Air Force and US Navy where he retired as a Chief Petty Officer. He then served 22 years with the government, where he worked in civil service at the Naval Air Station in Jacksonville, FL. John dedicated an additional 20+ years to the children of Montclair Elementary and Orange Park High Schools where he protected them as a school crossing guard.
John had a well-known passion for Alabama football. Spending time with his family was what he enjoyed most in life.
John remarried on June 18, 2011 to Lillian (Lil) Johnson of Holly Hill, FL who was beside him when he passed. John is also survived by his son Johnathan Jay Shatto (wife Janet) of Jacksonville, FL; daughter Charlene Marie Gross (husband Brian) of Middleburg, FL; five grandchildren (Jamie Gross, Ryan Roediger, Jarrod Gross, Tate Roediger, and Christian Jones); and numerous children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren from his extended family with Lil.
Please join the family on Thursday, December 26, 2024 at 1:00 pm at Hardage-Gidden Holly Hill Funeral Home located at 3601 Old Jennings Road, Middleburg, Florida to celebrate his life. Visitation will be open to the public from 12:00 to 1:00 pm. Interment to follow at Holly Hill Memorial Park with Pastor Jim Wilder officiating.
