was born in Chicago, IL on August 7, 1946. John was preceded in death by his parents, Bernie and Winifred Haak; his brothers, Jim Haak and Ben Haak; his son,John Haak. He is survived by his son
Jeff Haak; granddaughter, Destinee Haak Carroll & her husband, Caleb Carroll; great-grandson, Chandler Carroll; former daughter-in-law, Janet Haak Lawrence; sister, Penny Rodgers and her husband Les; brother, Paul Haak and his wife Sandra; and many nephews and nieces and their children.
John was an Army veteran and a lifetime member of the Local 150 Operating Engineers Union of Illinois where he had many friends and colleagues to share many stories and laughs with. John enjoyed his 19 years of retirement living in Florida on the water and avidly fishing and reading his old western novels. He loved spending time with family and was always the jokester. He had the gift of a green thumb and
had many types of plants to tend to. John was a supporter of the Wounded Warrior Project and frequently donated to the cause. He was a man that never met a stranger. He was a fun loving, well admired, humorous, sarcastic and the most genuine person known to many. He leaves this earth with many that had a great adoration for him.
John’s celebration of life will be at Hardage- Giddens Holly Hill funeral home on Saturday, September 26th at 12:00 (noon) for visitation and the service will be at 1:00pm. A private graveside service for immediate family will be at a later date per his wishes.
