With his wife at his side, Hugh passed peacefully from this life into the arms of his Lord and Savior on January 1, 2020, after a sudden, long and difficult health journey. Hugh was born in Jamestown, NY, son of Harold and Ollie Welch McCombs.
Hugh will be greatly missed by his wife and soul-mate of 35 years, Lynette; his four children (and spouses): Heath (Sally) McCombs, Amanda (John) Sembrat, Jeremy (Corrin) McCombs, Ashley (Andrew) Nelson; his grandchildren Hope and Lilly McCombs, and Zack Kirsopp; his brother Dale, nephews Brian and Eric; and mother-in-law Laura Szewczuk.
Self-less in his approach to life and relationships, Hugh was always about others and how he could help, teach, or come alongside as a friend. His career encompassed years as a turbine mechanic for both Penelec and JEA, then as a Florida Certified HVAC Contractor. He was owner/operator of Comfort Air Technologies Inc., of Clay County since 2002. He was also the HVAC Instructor at St John’s Technical College for several years prior to semi-retirement in 2015.
Hugh was an avid outdoorsman: hunting, scuba diving, competitive shooting, all of which he enjoyed with his best friend Lynette. He humbly held the title of Florida State Champion in smallbore silhouette competitive shooting for 4 years in a row, as well as Open State Champion titles in Georgia and North Carolina. He was match director at Gateway Rifle Pistol Club in Jacksonville, and a member of the Guardians Security Operations. He was a team lead for the Security Ministry and Security Team at the Springs Church.
Hugh lived out what he believed: love the Lord, love and devote yourself to your wife and family, care deeply for others and always be honest and do the right thing....for there is great joy in being the hands and feet of Jesus to all those you encounter in life.
