Billy R. Engle, age 92 of Orange Park, Florida, passed away September 4, 2024 at Baptist Clay Hospital in Clay County, Florida. He died from complications of long standing heart disease. Loving family members were by his side as he passed from this life into his eternal home.
Billy was born November 4,1931 in Kentucky, to Alva and Mary Engle. After graduation from high school, he entered the University of Kentucky where he earned a degree in Physical Education. During this time, he served in the ROTC program and was on the Rifle Team. He subsequently entered the army and was a
Lieutenant and paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne.
He met the love of his life, Phyllis Bugg, while in college. They married after his graduation and settled in Cincinnati, Ohio where they raised their daughter, Robin. Billy worked as high school math teacher and coached multiple high school sports Including football, basketball, baseball, and track.
Billy was a devoted husband, father, friend, and most importantly a follower of Jesus Christ. He is survived by his daughter Robin Engle Virtue, his son in-law, Tom Virtue, grandchildren Grant Virtue and Kara Virtue Hardin, and grandson in-law Tristan Hardin.
Billy’s funeral will be at The Springs Church, 900 Park Avenue, Orange Park, Florida on September 28th at 11:00 AM.
