Charles Franklin Smith, age 59, of Miamisburg, OH passed away on Tuesday, January 3, 2023 after months of health struggles. He was born May 19, 1963 in Salem, MA to the late Preston and Nancy Smith. Charlie grew up in Marblehead, MA and graduated from Marblehead High Class of ’81, where he was an accomplished athlete, especially in shotput and discus. An avid lover of the outdoors and the ocean, he joined the Boy Scouts and earned his Eagle Scout at age 18. Then, Charlie joined the U.S. Air Force in 1982 and was stationed at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, assigned as an Avionic Communication Specialist. In 1984, he was honorably discharged after a life-altering stroke at age 20 from complications due to Lupus.
He found the love of his life, Trent, in 1983 and they married June 15, 1985. He graduated from Wright State University in 1990 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Biology. Following graduation, he settled into a long career as a Technical Analyst with PNC, and was passionate about burgeoning technologies and the growth of human innovation. Always an adoring father, Charlie was very involved with his two daughters’ hobbies; officiating for the Miamisburg Barracuda Swim Team, volunteering with Children’s Performing Arts of Miamisburg (CPAM), as well as Joyce Dalton Baton and Dance Studio. Charlie was always a lover of vacations with his family, especially to Disney. Later in life, he became an avid cyclist, often cycling with his wife and friends on his recumbent trike. Charlie forever found the joy in life.
He was preceded in death by his parents; mother-in-law, Patricia Hall; father-in-law, Allen Hall III; and beloved dogs, Cosmo, Josie, and Tinkerbell.
Charlie is survived by: his loving wife, Trent Smith; daughters, Hannah and Lindsey Smith; sister, Donna Parker and husband Tom; brother, Gary Smith and wife Joan; mother-in-law, Diana Hall; sisters-in-law, Susan James, Britt Caffarena and husband Giancarlo; brother-in-law, Allen Ditmer; nieces and nephews, Adam, Josh, Nathan, Ben, David, Jennifer, Heather A., Paul, Tony, Heather J., and Marcus; and his pug buddy, Louie.
Please join us for a gathering of family & friends from 4:00 – 6:00 PM Monday, January 9, 2023 at Gebhart-Schmidt-Parramore Funeral Home, Miamisburg. Funeral service to celebrate Charlie’s life will follow at 6:00 PM Monday at the funeral home with Pastor Mike Henry officiating. Burial with military honors will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, January 10, 2023 at Forest Hills Memorial Gardens, Tipp City.
