Sergio was born in Cárdenas, Cuba, to Faustino L. Dalmau Treserra and Nora P. Fernandez Aranburu on April 29, 1946. In 1961, as part of Operation Pedro Pan, he fled communist Cuba at the age of 14. After a period of separation, Sergio and his family reunited and settled in New Orleans. He later attended Louisiana State University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in civil engineering. A lifelong learner, Sergio pursued further education throughout his life, studying business and accounting. He also gained proficiency in multiple languages, including French and Portuguese. He became a licensed professional engineer across all Southeastern states, Puerto Rico, and several others, and held a general contractor’s license in Florida.
In 1979, Sergio founded PTE, which, at 45 years old, is the oldest post-tensioning company in the U.S. Through his leadership and perseverance, PTE remained strong and independent, even as other companies faced challenges, merged, or exited the industry. His ability to outlast others in such a competitive field is a testament to his dedication, intelligence, and unwavering commitment.
He was actively involved in various professional associations and generously supported many charitable causes throughout his life.
A man of deep faith, Sergio served as a Eucharistic Minister at the Church of the Epiphany in South Miami and later at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Key Biscayne. His faith led him on many Catholic pilgrimages around the world, and he developed a special devotion to Medjugorje, where he made multiple visits to honor the Virgin Mary’s appearances.
An avid sports fan and LSU fanatic, Sergio’s passion for the Tigers was matched only by his devotion to his family. He adored his four children and grandchildren, and his perseverance through life’s challenges made him a true fighter and survivor in every sense.
Sergio is survived by his former spouse, Ana Maria Garcia Du-Quesne, and their four children: Sergio A. Dalmau and his wife, Marely; Ana Dalmau; Cecilia Dalmau; and Jorge Dalmau. He is also survived by his brothers, Raul Dalmau and Tino Dalmau, as well as his beloved grandchildren: Sophia Dalmau, Jorge J. Dalmau, Lucas Dalmau, Isabella Damour, and step-grandchild William Gomez.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 20, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Caballero Rivero Westchester, 8200 Bird Road, Miami, FL 33155.
