Mr. Fry was born in Mt. Vernon, Illinois on August 15, 1932, the youngest son of Roy and May Fry, and one of seven children. His sisters Evelyn Highsmith, Mildred Woods, Gladys Derry, Dorothy Smith, and brothers, Wayne Fry, and Kenneth Fry, all preceded him in death.
Onis was a graduate of Mt. Vernon High School. He was an exceptional pianist and had great organizational skills. He became the manager of one of the local movie theaters while he was in high school and then manager for both theaters upon graduation. He briefly served in the Army where he was stationed at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.
Onis relocated to Florida where he lived in Miami and Miami Beach. He was an accounts manager for various companies, including Coca-Cola. He and Mr. Otero moved to Charlotte, NC for a while, but ultimately returned to Miami to live out their lives together in Miami Beach.
One of his favorite things was watching Florida sunrises and sunsets. He also loved dining at the Versailles with Osvaldo and friends. Onis was an amazing storyteller and followed the Mt. Vernon Register News online to stay updated on hometown news. Onis enjoyed being with his lifetime partner, Osvaldo, for nearly 70 years, and appreciated the love of Osvaldo’s family, especially Osvaldo’s sister, Migdalia Otero, and her daughter and Osvaldo’s niece, Terri Willingham, who cherished Onis deeply and will remember him with love always.
Mr. Fry's wishes were to be cremated, and no funeral services are planned. His ashes will be interred at Caballero Rivero Woodlawn North in Miami.
