Norma Alvarez, a native of San Antonio de los Baños, Cuba, was reunited with her beloved husband, Jesús on April 2nd, 2023. After a beautiful 6-year courtship, they married in 1959 and started their family with the birth of their first son, Jesus, the following year. In 1961, they left Cuba in search of freedom and eventually settled in New Jersey where they welcomed sons Juan Carlos and Francisco Javier, and daughter Rita Maria.
The family moved to Miami where Norma enjoyed two successful and spectacular careers: first at Southeast Bank, and then at United Way. She fostered many close and valued friendships with her coworkers at both places. An avid traveler, Norma went on yearly trips visiting many cities and countries throughout Europe, North and South America which she thoroughly enjoyed. Upon her retirement, she cherished her time at home, relaxing and spending quality time with her family.
This beloved and special mother and grandmother will be greatly missed by her children: Jesus; Juan Carlos & his wife, Liz; Frank; Rita & her husband, Juan Carlos; and her grandchildren who adored their "Mumu": Jessica & her husband, Alex; Anthony; Dante; Ivan; Jennifer & her husband, Thomas; and Fabian.
She is also survived by her sister, Violeta; her nephew, Raul, his wife, Sandra and their son Raul.
All are grateful to our Lord for her presence in our lives for so many wonderful years and remain faithful that she is in His loving care.
She loved flowers and always enjoyed receiving them. However, donations to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation would also be appreciated as this was the illness that claimed her husband.
A visitation for Norma will be held Tuesday, April 11, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 11:00 PM at Caballero Rivero Woodlawn South, 11655 SW 117 Ave, Miami, Florida 33186. A funeral mass will occur Wednesday, April 12, 2023 at 11:00 AM at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 900 SW 26th Rd, Miami, Florida 33129. A burial will occur Wednesday, April 12, 2023 at 1:00 PM at Woodlawn South, 11655 SW 117 Ave, Miami, Florida 33186.
