died at home on Thursday, April 13, 2017. She is survived
by her three sons,Michael Jaffe of Pinecrest, FL,
David Jaffe of Easthampton, MA,and Roy Jaffe of Phoenix, AZ;
her daughter-in-law, Stefani Jaffe of Phoenix, AZ;
her indispensable friend, Martha Bern of Phoenix, AZ;
her sweet feline companion, Precious; and many loving nieces
and nephews.
She is predeceased by her husband of 61 years, Richard “Dick” Jaffe;
her three sisters, Esther Schiff, Doris Kurland, and Beatrice Sokol;
her two brothers, Milton Salzburg and Joseph Salzburg;
and her parents. Millie was born on September 30, 1931 in
Nicholson, PA, the youngest child of Samuel and Anna (Eber) Salzburg.
She grew up in the small town of Mayfield, PA and graduated
as salutatorian of her high school class. She moved to Florida
around 1951 and settled in the Miami area. In 1954, she met her
future husband Richard at a Valentine’s Day dance.
They married on New Year’s Eve, 1955, and, before long,
welcomed three adored children into the world.
The family resided in the Cutler Ridge section of Miami
before putting down long-term roots in
(what is now known as) Pinecrest, FL, in 1963.
Through the years, Millie was a doting mother, devoted wife,
and hard-working homemaker. As her children grew, she also took
on a series of secretarial and administrative positions with various
local law firms and insurance companies. She was a highly respected
employee and coworker, valued for her helpfulness, diligence, and
strong organizational skills. For many years, she was in the employ
of The New England Life Insurance Company, before Hurricane
Andrew expedited her retirement in 1992.
As Millie’s nest emptied of children, it was readily filled by many beloved
pets, including an array of stray cats who spread word of her kind and
generous spirit. She never ceased to have a soft spot for animals or to
model love and respect toward all creatures. She was the loveliest of
creatures herself and will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate to know her.
Funeral services will be held in the chapel at Lakeside Memorial Park
in Miami on Thursday, April 20, at 11:00 a.m., with burial to follow.
In lieu of flowers or other memorial gifts, donations to
Best Friends Animal Society or a similar animal welfare organization
would be greatly appreciated.under the direction of
Riverside Gordon Memorial Chapels at Mount Nebo (Kendall), Miami, FL.
