Marva L Flecha, age 75, of Cutler Bay, Florida passed away on Monday, January 2, 2023. Marva was born in Panama. Our cherished Marva was a faithful woman who loved the Lord, her family, her church and the community. She will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Marva was born on October 13, 1947, on the Canal Zone in the Republic of Panama to Arnold Garvey Rich and Eden Bedell (Brown) Rich. She attended Rainbow City Canal Zone School and Colegio Jose Guardia Vega. When growing up, Marva was an active member of Salem Mission Church in Colon, Republic of Panama. Upon graduation, Marva worked at the Upjohn Colon Free Trade Zone and later at the Captain of the Port Building in the Panama Canal Zone.
She married Gladson Flecha on September 30, 1967 and had three children from this union.
In 1972, Marva immigrated to the United States. She settled in Brooklyn, New York with her family where she worked at The World Trade Center and Columbia University.
In 1980, Marva and her family relocated to Miami, Florida. She worked for Miami-Dade County Public Schools and held several positions in Miami-Dade County including working in the GSA Fleet Management Shop 2 Department, the Port of Miami, the Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department, Special Transportation Services (STS), and Miami-Dade Employee Enrollment and Insurance Benefits Department. Marva retired from Miami-Dade County in 2009 and dedicated her time to her family and serving in the Church of the Nazarene.
Marva has been an active member of the Church of the Nazarene since coming to the United States. In Brooklyn, New York, she served faithfully at Beulah Church of the Nazarene. In Miami, Florida, she was a steadfast member of Goulds Church of the Nazarene and South Miami Heights Church of the Nazarene. She held several church positions including board member, Sunday School teacher, church secretary and Nazarene Mission International (NMI).
Marva was preceded in death by her parents, Arnold Garvey Rich and Eden Bedell (Brown) Rich; her sister Carol Joyce Rich and her son, Gladson Dionisio Flecha. Marva is survived by her husband, Gladson Flecha; her daughter, Ursula M. Flecha-Lewis; her son, Garrick J. Flecha (Temeka Linder-Flecha); her grandchildren, Mayssa M. Lewis-Valdes (Eddie Valdes), Garrick L. Flecha, Leandro D. Flecha, Rachelle Rattray-Wadley (Tabaras Wadley); her sister Brenda Jean Rich of the Republic of Panama, former daughter in-law Latisha Fuller-Mustafa (Helwey Mustafa) and many more cousins, nieces, nephews, church family and friends.
A visitation for Marva will be held Wednesday, January 11, 2023 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Caballero Rivero Woodlawn South, 11655 SW 117 Ave, Miami, Florida 33186. A burial will occur Thursday, January 12, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Woodlawn Park South, 11655 SW 117 Ave, Miami, Florida 33186.
