Martha Anderson of Miami, Florida passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 14, 2020. She passed away after a courageous battle with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease. Martha was born in Troy, Ohio and raised in Cincinnati by her parents Jack and Alice Meyers. In addition to her parents, Martha was blessed to have a loving sister, Margaret “Margie” Gangler. From 1978 to 1988, Martha was married to Kevin Anderson, who she had one son with in 1984, Jonathan Anderson.
In 1988 Martha and Jonathan settled in Miami, Florida where she worked in banking for nearly 20 years. Martha was an incredibly tough, sweet, and caring woman to everyone she encountered. Martha had many passions ranging from an incredible knowledge of music, to her love of all sports in particular those represented by Duke University and the University of Miami, to spending time and staying in touch with her best friends and family to build impactful and lifelong relationships. Her biggest passion and legacy was raising her son Jonathan. She was devoted to making sure he received the best education, was surrounded by the best of influences and was able to pursue his dreams. Martha’s greatest joy was watching her son play baseball and spending each and every day she could with him.
Martha is survived by numerous friends in North Carolina, Ohio and Miami, FL. She is also survived by cousins in Ohio, including but not limited to Barbara Jackson, along with cousins in Florida, Vivi Beckner and Reni Green and their families. Martha was very proud of every one of Vivi and Reni’s children and grandchildren and always enjoyed seeing them. Finally, Martha is survived by her son Jonathan Anderson. You are welcome to send flowers as Martha loved flowers, in particular carnations.
Martha’s father passed away due to ALS as well, so she was always hopeful that a cure could be found someday.
