Dear Mabel,

I’ll never forget the first day I met you, and the last time I saw you. Those two moments are forever ingrained in my memory. 

I’m forever grateful for all the times we shared together. We were young and shared in learning many of life’s lessons. I’m so glad I had the chance to grow and learn with you. I wouldn’t change a thing, besides you still being here.

You will always be with me in my mind, and my heart. 

I hope you finally found peace and true happiness, wherever you are!

Mabel’s reach was far and impactful. I met her nearly 10 years ago in New York City vía a mutual friend. She was the first Cubana I had met from Miami. My first impression was that she was loud and overbearing and had zero filter. But boy was she gorgeous! I wasn’t sure what role she would play in my life, or if we would be friends at all. Mabel had a tough exterior, to say the least, but when she let you in, she was the sweetest, most caring and most loyal person I knew. I honestly believe this was also one of her weaknesses. Her ability to care so much for others but not care enough for herself. Undoubtedly, Mabel became an extended member of my family. During the time we spent in NYC, she was at every birthday party, every TownHouse bbq, and every holiday event in Harlem, despite having to travel all the way from Queens or from Fortlee in NJ.  Elias was her little peanut and I can’t stand to imagine a life where he will grow without her. But I’m so happy he has so many wonderful pictures to remember her by. I hope she knew how much she was loved and cherished. As many of you know, Mabel had the happiest happy feet of them all. I hope you are dancing away in heaven Mabel. RIP. 💔

Hey, Mama. 

Thank you for your friendship.  Thank you for being our older sister, the mama duck to our space cadet crew. Always standing up for us, making sure no one took advantage of us. You always spoke your mind and delivered hard truths, you were wise beyond your years.  

I remember clearly, the night/morning my car got towed in Miami Beach. Stefano, Vick, Andy and I spent all morning trying to scrape together cash to get it back, but we were broke and looking at a very very hefty fee. We were kids after all, chasing parties all over the city with what little money we had (or didn't) half the time. Noon was rolling around and we were desperate, you were at space that morning. One of us reached out to you, and without hesitation you demanded that we come over and pick up the cash from you. 

We took a taxi over the causeway (which we had no money to pay for) and pulled up behind space. You were always in good with everyone so the bouncer let you walk outside and hand us the money (taxi fare included). Mabel, you saved our asses that day and you never once asked for anything in return. I think you might have cussed us to hell and back for being idiots, but we felt nothing but the love, care, and concern that came with your words. 

They say " if you want see the true character of person watch the way they treat someone who can't do anything for them". I found out that day who you truly were, and that is, one of the most unselfish & loyal individuals that anyone could ever ask to have in their life.

I will cherish all the moments we shared, forever. From spending hours on the sand, to spending nights on the dance floor. You will forever be a guiding star in the lives of so many people, mine included. I am going to miss your laugh, your smile, your attitude, your grit, your resilience, and your strength.

I’m in complete disbelief that you’re gone. I remember meeting you for the first time in 2008 when I was 11 years old visiting Miami for my brother’s college graduation. I was always a shy kid but your outgoing and sweet personality made it easy for me to get comfortable around you. I’ll never forget that one picture by the pool of a little chubby me sitting beside you. That photo would constantly be brought up over the years to come and every-time we’d bring it up we’d cry laughing about it. I remember the first picture we took after you came back to NY, I was finally old enough to go out and party with you guys and the first night out you were so excited that you wanted to take a picture together and compare it to when I was little. I remember the weekends I would visit in Fort Lee and Jersey City and all the fun times and laughs we shared. I’ve known you for so long it felt like you were the big sister I never had. I’m still at a loss for words. Thank you for being the amazing woman that you are. You will forever be remembered.

At school!  Every morning was a new picture 

I don't know where to start. The day I met you in a Brooklyn basement surrounded by our closest friends ready for a night out on the town or Sunday afternoons where we made ceviche  and enjoyed the afternoon sun with Gigi, Romeo and all the other wonderful characters that were involved in the shennaningans. I can barely bring myself to write this, but what I will say is that you are an everlasting memory in my mind and heart. Thank you for your thoughtful ear and wise words when it came to women I just didn't understand. Thank you for making me Picadillo I'll never have again and thank you for being the voice of reason time and time again, when I so very much needed guidance. You are, and forever will be missed, thought of and loved...

Mabel was such an amazing, sweet and unique person. We met our Junior year in high school and became the best of friends. She was such a tough person and was always there to protect me from anyone that would ever dare say or do anything to me. So much so that I would always tell her that she was my body guard (and she loved it).

Mabel and I went through alot together throughout our times together and I feel blessed to have met her and that she was a part of my life and I hers. I learned alot from her especially how to be tough and not take anything from anyone. She will always have a place in my heart.

To Mabel's family: I am so so sorry and I cannot imagine what you are going through.  My thoughts and prayers are with you all. <3

Where do i start? The dance team in high school? Our dance offs at space? Or when we coordinated our outfits for our first Swedish house motel? So many memories and because of you i met the father of my girls. I loved you and always did.. we fought as much as we cried together as much as we’d laugh together just as much as we’d dance together. I’ll never forget the night i flew to get you in Jersey for our road trip back to Miami and how i said I’d never gone to a Mets game and you pulled a U-turn and we ended up at the game. No amount of words can suffice how much our friendship meant. We bumped heads and acted like it never happened the next time we spoke. Your laugh was def one of the funniest and even now i can hear you telling me to stop crying like a baby which still makes me laugh. I’m going to miss you and so are the girls. You meant so much to everyone you encountered and i hope you took that with you.. love you Mabelline NY. See you on the flips side with my Fanny pack and dancing shoes 💜💛

Jesus I can't believe your gone; so many fun memories including the time we both said screw it and attempted to learn to snowboard even though we had no clue what we were doing. You even lost my GoPro on the bunny hill and spent 30min asking every single person on the hill if they saw a GoPro and you found it! I honestly wasin't even mad when we thought it was lost, I just thought it was funny but you were convinced on finding it no matter what. 

It is truly sad your no longer with us here and I hope where you are you have peace and love. I will miss you and all the silly conversations we had. I know your smiling upon on with a goofy face trying not to laugh.  Will miss you Mabz

I wouldn’t have imagined writing this to you this early in our lifetime. You was a great friend and sister to me. Because of you i met the mother of my daughters and I’ll forever be grateful for that and the love you’ve shown to the girls and I since day 1. My lakers/ Kobe Bryant fanatic we shared many memories and heartaches from Kobe retiring to Kobe’s death. You will be missed dearly and i wish you’re watching over all of us now and meeting Kobe and Gigi up in heaven. Miss you and love you Flaka 💔
