Joseph Anthony Otero

Joseph Anthony OTERO, age 80 of Miami, passed away on Thursday, May 5, 2022. He was born July 25,1941 in Manhattan, where he received his training as a hair dresser. He attended the Paul Mitchell Academy in Manhattan and later studied at the Vidal Sassoon Institute in London. He moved to Miami in the mid-seventies and opened his first beauty salon.

Known as J. Kristiaan by his friends and clients, he was a well-known and respected hair dresser. He owned several beauty salons in Miami in the Brickell Avenue area and one of the most entertaining was the salon next to Cye’s Rivergate.

Jay loved life – he enjoyed the theatre, ballet, plays, movies and travel. He is preceded in death by his parents, Mother Isasia (mama Sasy) and Father Jose (Papa Joe).

He is survived by his brother Richard (Clare) of South Florida and many loving nieces, nephews, clients and friends. He is also survived by his life partner of 45 years, Mark Alan Steele.

A memorial service for Jay will be held Sunday, May 15, 2022, from 2:30 PM to 4:00 PM at Riverside Gordon Memorial chapels at Mount Nebo/Kendall Memorial Gardens.
