Jose Ramon Ortega a native of Cuba and citizen of the US for 55years. He was the loving and dedicated husband for 65 years of Pilar Librada, proud father of Digna, Maria and son-in-law Gil, and felt blessed to be called Abuelo by Aly and Elliott and Abuelito by Xavi, Lucy and Pablo Jose.
A lifelong Knight of Columbus, it was his faith that brought him out of his homeland and faith in the Almighty guided his life. He was an example of giving and caring that served as a role model to many. The family counselor, he guided many with his kindness and wisdom through life's challenges. In this way he won the affection and deep respect of family and friends and frankly those with whom he had even brief encounters. Always with a ready smile, an open heart and free flowing conversation he exemplified Christian Charity.
To provide for his family and others in need he worked 2 jobs his whole life. He called it a blessing to be able to work hard and do good for others. He used his time and gifts to the benefit of his family and anyone that was in need. He always said it was the least that Jesus would want him to do.
There were few sports he didn't like but baseball was his first love. A sweet tooth his whole life, ice cream was his favorite and in later years it was all about the chicharon. Selfless to a fault he was the role model to his daughters and extended family. His guiding light will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers please donate in his honor to Moffitt Cancer Center.
