A visitation for Jose will be held Friday, September 2, 2022 from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM at Caballero Rivero Woodlawn South, 11655 SW 117 Ave, Miami, FL 33186. A graveside service will occur Saturday, September 3, 2022 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Woodlawn Park South.
Jose Hernandez was a Cuban-born artist & pilot. Tony (as he liked to be called) was a pilot in the Cuban Air Force and the United States Air Force, where he achieved the rank of major. Tony migrated to the United States after the Cuban revolution. Tony was a graduate of the School of Business at the University of Nebraska. During his four years in Europe, Tony became interested in painting medieval castle ruins and the picturesque landscape of Europe. “But since every subject has a story to tell,” Once he retired, Tony spent his time painting the fascinating South Florida landscape, which included the Florida Everglades as well as the Royal Poinciana Trees. Tony spent his life enjoying his family as well as his hobbies. Tony enjoyed many hobbies, including acrylic painting (self-taught), woodworking, and carpentry. No one who met Tony forgot his passion for his hobbies. Tony made many beautiful things during his lifetime that everyone admired. Tony was a devoted husband & father. He was also a problem-solver who often took on complex and unwanted projects at work and around the house. Tony always had a remarkable knack for solving problems; he lived his life to the fullest. Tony was born in Santa Clara, Cuba, in 1931. In 1954 he met his lifetime sweetheart Lillian Michelena. They married on December 20, 1955, and had three children Jose Jr., Lillian, and Elisa. Tony is survived by his wife, three children, grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren
