Ernesto Gonzalez of Miami, Florida passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, February 29th at the age of 85. He was born on August 30th, 1938, in Havana, Cuba to Ernesto E. and Isabel Gonzalez. Raised in Havana, Ernesto graduated from Candler College High School in 1956 as class valedictorian. On August 12th, 1961, he married Elvira Garcia, immigrated to the United States a year later and settled in Orlando, Florida to build a new life. While working full time in an accounting firm, he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Accounting from the University of South Florida in 1967 while attending night classes.
Ernesto enjoyed a long and successful career in accounting, holding several senior level accounting and financial positions including financial controller of Orlando Regional Medical Center. As a devout Catholic, he was active in the church in Orlando with the Cursillos de Cristiandad and held the position of choir director at Saint James Cathedral and Good Shepherd Catholic Church for many years, combining his joy for music and faith.
Ernesto was an avid sports fan and enjoyed playing squash, softball and basketball. In his youth in Cuba, he was a competitive squash player and achieved national champion status in his age group one year. He was also very passionate about professional sports, mostly his favorite team – the Miami Dolphins – which was passed on to his sons. Ernesto enjoyed travelling and cherished spending time at the beach with his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Elvira Gonzalez; three sons and their spouses, Ernesto Gonzalez & Anabel Soriano, Eduardo & Janette Gonzalez and Francisco & Christina Gonzalez; eight grandchildren, Yvette, Ernesto, Melissa, Sabrina, Emilie, Nicholas, Nathan and Daniel; along with two great grandchildren Noah and Emma.

Los servicios funerales se llevarán a cabo el miércoles, marzo 6, 2024 a las 11:00 a. m. en St. Timothy Catholic Church, 5400 SW 102 Ave, Miami, Florida 33165. Un entierro se llevará a cabo el miércoles, marzo 6, 2024 a la 1:00 p. m. en Woodlawn Park South, 11655 SW 117 Ave, Miami, Florida 33186.
