Enrique lovingly known as “el Niño,” “Mendo,” and ”Mendoza” died peacefully in his home of 38 years. He resided in Miami, Florida since September 8, 1962 after fleeing his homeland of Cuba. He served his country as a military officer under Cuban President, Fulgencio Batista fighting against the communist revolution of the Castro regime.
Here in Miami, he started his life of freedom meeting and marrying his wife, while growing to establish and thrive as a father, husband, business man and building contractor bringing with him his talents around cooking and interpersonal relations because he loved “people.“
He met and married Amelia in 1965 and started his life of freedom. La Roca Cafeteria, Plaza Madrid and Pinocho Market-all on his beloved Calle Ocho- were the fruit of his labor in the 70’s and 80’s. Under his ownership, they helped further the landscape of la “Pequeña Habana” here in South Florida and develop his entrepreneurial skill set which led to his days of building residential dwellings in his “Magic” City of Miami, until his retirement.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Amelia, his daughter, Laura, son in law Javier and his grandchildren, Kati, Karolina and William.
He will be sorely missed.
Rest in peace in His eternal glory, Pipo.
We will always love and appreciate your time with us here on earth.
