Viewing and rosary will be held Thursday, August 21, 2014, at Memorial Plan Kendall Funeral Home, 7355 SW 117 Ave., from 6 to 11 p.m. A mass service will be held on Friday, August 22, 2014, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church at 12 p.m.
Alfonso was born in Pamplona, Colombia, on August 7, 1942, to Gonzalo and Olivia (Laguado). In 1967, he came to the United State and obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering at Colorado State University in 1970. His first engineering position was with Leonidas Lara Auto Production Plant in Bogota. He then was with the Colombian airline, Avianca for twenty years in Bogota and Miami. In 1992, he opened his own business as an expeditor for the Colombian airline AeroRepublica. He retired in 2009.
He was an exceptional father, loving husband, supportive brother, and beloved friend.
Alfonso’s hobbies included: reading, working on home improvements, working on Sudoku puzzles, and taking long family road trips. He was known for his superb dancing to Latin music. Besides Latin, he loved country, classical and spiritual music. Soccer was one of his passions. He enjoyed playing, coaching his son’s team, and watching soccer. He especially enjoyed eating out, and socializing with family and friends. Moreover, he was an active member in his church community due to his abiding faith in our Lord Jesus Christ.
Survivors include his loving wife, Josephine, three sons, Julian of Orlando, Alex of Jacksonville, Florida, and Nicolas of Miami, two sisters of Colombia, Beatriz and Haylen, niece, Ivonne of Boca Raton, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Hernando, Alberto, Pedro, one sister, Mariela, and one niece, Haylen .
