I never met Carmen Francisca, but the time I spent with Carlos and how he is generous, I sure his mother Carmen Francisca was a beautiful personn, a part of his spirit will continue to exist in Paris.

                                   An Accomplished Cuban Woman

I was about 5 years old when my brother married Carmen's daughter Cathy, and Carmen became a part of our family.  In fact, she was the only other Cuban mother I ever knew, other than my own, and her being made a strong impact on me.

In my eyes, Carmen was a modern Cuban woman.  Not only did she have a successful career as a teacher fluent in English, her second language, but she was also a devoted wife to her beloved husband Juan; a respectful daughter to her mother Beatriz; and a proud mother of three talented children:  Cathy, Carlos, and Betty.  She was also a spiritual and devout person.  Entering her house was like entering a small chapel, complete with statues of saints and candles, perpetually glowing night and day.

Carmen lived a blessed life with many opportunities to care and be cared for.  She witnessed her children's successes, traveled with them, and enjoyed creating her beautiful home in Florida.  

I will remember her for her accomplishments, warm personality, and sense of style.

"I know that many people do not truly understand the value and impact a great teacher can have, but I do.
I was very fortunate to meet Mrs. Cabrera as a 5 year old little girl. What I remember most, is a wonderful woman who went above and beyond her duties, and came to Riverside Hospital to visit me and give me my lessons, so I wouldn't fall behind when I was sick. She didn't have to and I'm pretty sure her only compensation was my mother's gratitude.

I had the pleasure of meeting abuela in her beautiful home in coral gables, while visiting my best friend, her granddaughter, Ashley.  Each day, she would feed us her homemade Cuban food until our stomaches were ready to burst!  The food she made was not only my delicious, but most importantly, cooked with the most pride and love. On the last night of my visit, I wanted to cook abuela a dinner from my culture to thank her for her hospitality and give her a night off in the kitchen.  I made her pasta with grape tomatoes and fresh mozzarella with chicken cutlets.  We all sat at the dinner table and became family during that visit.  She shared her recipes with me, as I did with her.  We ended our stay with a beautiful Mother's Day brunch.  Her eyes were so alive as she shared her day with her family which she adored so much. Her heart was filled with so much warmth and love.  I immediately felt as if I had known her all my life.  I will truly miss abuela.  She lived life truly to its fullest and created a legacy for her wonderful family.  Her life and legacy will always live on, especially when her recipes are shared among the people she loved.

Although my parents spoke to me as a child about the deep love and affection Carmita and Juanito always expressed in word and deed to their loved ones. As an adult, fate gave my wife Rossi, our kids, and me the opportunity to rekindle the relationship that had dwindled with time and distance. Carmita reached out to us upon arriving in Miami and at once bestowed on us the warmth and love she clearly yearned to share with all whom she held dear. Carmita had a distinct sense of family and a unique knowledge of what was truly imporant in life. She cared for her husband with undying devotion and gentleness, never once uttering regret or complaints. Carlos, Cathy and Betty, I was truly sadden by Carmen's passing. She was very special to my mom, my grandmother, Ralph and me. She was more than just a friend of the family, she was family. A lovely, kind, and sweet lady who always was with us, in good and bad times. My mom loved her so much and ever since I was a small child spoke so highly of her. As I grew I realized that mom was so right. Carmita was a fantastic daughter, a loyal and loving wife, and a "I got your back" mom. Every week she visited with your grandmother Beatriz and your dad and my mom and grandmother looked foward to making the Cuban expresso for them. We loved her and she will always be part of us. God Bless you all during this difficult time and know that we are praying for you and sending you much love and thoughts of comfort.

The world is less than without you Carmela ,I will always remember your kindness and unquenchable thirst for life .You left a long line of students with your teaches and love ....this is how i will remember you .
My continued love and support to my extended family is without question ,i will be at your service always.....Just as Carmela would have done in anyone's hour of needed .She was our Angel
