I used his book in a course I taught for many years. 

I was a student of Professor Snyder at University of Miami in 1972 and 1973. He wrote letters of recommendation for medical school for me. I was sorry I never got in touch with him afterwards. I enjoyed talking to him. I did become a physician and eventually became a medical epidemiologist at Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. I think he would have been interested to know that. I send my sincere condolences.

So sorry to hear of his passing.  I owe him a lot.  Carl was instrumental in whatever professional success I enjoyed.  We had lunch around October 2019 and I thanked him for his generousity. I will miss him.

I am reminded today how quickly time passes. You have been gone a year today. You are not forgotten my old friend.

I just found out my most treasured professor passed away.  Dr. Snyder was my most important teacher at the University of Miami in the 1970s.  I commuted to the campus by bus each day and could not arrive for the necessary 8am organic chemistry class, which I needed in order to take the dental admissions test at the appropriate time.  I started Dr. Snyder's class (even after all these years I can't call him Carl) a semester late and he spent part of his office hours every week helping me to work ahead in the class.  It was a success and started me off on the life I have today.  His example inspired me to teach as well as to practice and I greatly enjoyed our annual holiday correspondence.  He was a real mensch.  My deepest sympathy to his family.

I enjoyed Carl's company, the tales he told, and the chemistry book he gave me for my daughter. To say he was interesting is an understatement. Whenever I made it to Miami I had breakfast at Deli Lane with the usual crew. 

Carl kept the conversation lively, and always had the reasonable perspective on the political shifts of our time.  We all enjoyed discussing  the vibrant landmarks of South Miami and Coral Gables, which include Matheson Hammock, Fairchild Gardens, Cutler Ridge, and many more.

Dr. Snyder educated many students in the mysteries of chemistry  at the University of Miami, who became medical doctors in Miami, and around the world. One of his students was my niece  who now serves as a medical doctor Pennsylvania.  

You are missed...



I am glad that I knew and spent time with both Carl and Jean.  I enjoyed their company a lot,  and my life is better for having known them. 

My heartfelt condolences go out to Carl’s family and friends.  I always enjoyed seeing Carl at Deli Lane on Friday mornings.  He always had interesting stories to tell about travel, science & current events.  I admire the love he showed when he spoke about his wife and family.  The earthly world has lost a kind man but I know his spirit will live on in all those who love and miss him.  

Our lives as friends together began over breakfast.  Jean introduced us and it was off and running for both of us.   A minor  breakfast tradition was started. You had a keen sense of humor that you used sometimes to yank my chain. My wife Diane and I miss the good times we spent with you and Jean. Rest easy my friend. 

Beautiful people never die in the hearts of those who love them. I will always treasure my discussions with Carl and our friendship.  The last day I saw him, he kissed my hand and said I am having some minor surgery, but I’ll be back to your classes soon.  I miss them! I miss you too my friend! RIP.  Judy
