Walter A. Landry, Jr., a proud World War II veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, September 8, 2013, at the age of 89. Beloved husband of Marilee Messina Landry for 65 years, father of Linda Melinie (Roland), Philip Landry (Becky) and Glenn Landry (Sandy). Grandfather of Jeremy Shall (Cherie), Julie Cerise (Paul), Joshua Landry (Cassidy), Kate Shaum (Corey). He is survived by one sister, Rosabelle Yuratich. He is also survived by 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter A. Landry, Sr. and Lillie Landry, his siblings Jimmy Landry, Philip Landry, Evelyn Bartlett, and Harry Landry.
He was a lifelong resident of Metairie, LA. Walter was a parishoner of St. Ann’s Catholic Church, a member of the American Legion, and AMSE, and a volunteer at the World War II Museum. He retired from Freeport McMoran after 30 years.
The family would like to offer special thanks to his devoted caregivers, Minnie Claborn, Katie Burrell, Sandra Vappie, Jessie Jasmin, and Dawnelle Smith.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Service at Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4900 Airline Drive, Metairie, LA 70001 on Thursday, September 12, 2013 at 1:00 PM. Visitation will be from 11:30 until service time. Interment will follow in Garden of Memories Cemetery.
