Richard Durward Meece, age 81, passed away peacefully at his Metairie home on Thursday, March 28th. Richard is preceded in death by his parents, Gordon and Mary, and his brother, Robert. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Marilyn, daughter Teri, son Joel, brother Michael, grandchildren Nathan, Daniel, Jacob, and Emily, son-in-law Darrell, former wife Sharon, and sister Nannetta.
Richard was born on September 25th, 1942, in Houston, Texas, and spent most of his childhood growing up in Shreveport, Louisiana. He graduated from Byrd High School and received a Bachelor of Science Liberal Arts, Psychology from Centenary College, Master of Arts, Counseling from Louisiana Tech, and Doctor of Philosophy from Baptist Christian University. Richard had his own counseling practice for many years in Shreveport until he retired and moved to New Orleans.
Richard Meece will be fondly remembered by his family and friends for his unwavering kindness and compassion, his commitment to his God and family, and his insuppressible zest for life. Richard’s insatiable curiosity and sense of wonder kept him young at heart, and his free spirited personality and famous sense of humor never failed to put a smile on the face of anyone he met. He will be sorely missed by all who were blessed to know him.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Memorial Blvd., near Clearview Pkwy., in Metairie, LA on Saturday morning, April 13, 2024 beginning at 9:00 AM with a Memorial Mass to follow at 10:30 AM in Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home’s chapel.
