Morris Bart Sr.

Morris Bart, Sr., age 95, died on Monday, June 20, 2011 at East Jefferson Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Hertha R. Bart, and devoted father of Vivian Cahn (Richard) and Morris Bart III (Cathy). Grandfather of David Cahn, Carrie Marks (Austin), Michelle and Jennifer Bart. Brother of the late Flora Bart Brody. Also survived by his nephew, Robert “Buzz” Brody of Knoxville, TN.

Mr. Bart was a native of Knoxville, TN and a resident of New Orleans since 1961. He was a well known real estate developer, especially on the Westbank. He served as a Captain in the 82nd Airborne during World War II stationed in Europe, flying small reconnaissance planes into enemy territory. He was a member of Congregation Gates of Prayer, past president of the Toastmaster’s Club, a 32nd degree Mason, and an active member of B’nai Brith and the Jewish War Veterans.

Funeral services for Mr. Morris Bart Sr. will take place on Wednesday, June 22, 2011 at 2:30 PM at Gates of Prayer Synagogue, 4000 W. Esplanade Ave., Metairie with Rabbi Robert Loewy officiating. Visitation will be at the synagogue on Wednesday from 1:00 PM until service time. Interment will follow in Hebrew Rest Cemetery No. 3 in New Orleans.
