She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Charles B. Polit Sr., sons, Charlie Polit Jr., Louis Polit, and Fred Polit, siblings, Frank Ricks, Catherine Songy, Lola Wooley, and Joseph Ricks, son-in-law, Nick Lumetta, and granddaughter, Cheryl Edwards.
She is survived by her daughter, Bobbie Lumetta (companion, Lionel Meyn), grandchildren, Charlene Authement (Ash), John Polit, and Nick Lumetta (Michelle), great-grandchildren, Kyle, Keith, Caty, and Nicole, and great-great-grandchildren, Zeke and Jayden. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews.
Marie enjoyed a long and happy life. She was a talented artist who loved doing needlepoint and ceramics. She enjoyed going out, especially to Canal St., and always looked forward to Carnival season. She was a devout Catholic, a parishioner of Divine Mercy Parish, and had a special devotion to St. Jude and St. Padre Pio.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the nurses with Hospice Compassus, Stephanie, Jamie, and Sarah for their excellent care. They would also like to thank Jo Ann Malter for bringing communion to Marie and Jay, Lionel, Michelle, and Kyle for always being there to help.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, May 25, 2021 at Leitz Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Memorial Blvd. Metairie, LA. Visitation will be held from 11Am-1PM with a memorial Mass to begin at 1PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in Marie’s memory.
