Lillian Lebed “Bubbie” Glazer of New Orleans died peacefully at her home on Saturday, April 13, 2013 with her loving family at her side. Beloved wife of the late Louis A. Glazer, she is survived by son, Jay Glazer, and daughters Shelley Middleberg and Carole Jacobson and her seven grandchildren, Benjamin Middleberg, Aaron Middleberg, Phyllis Glazer, Matthew Glazer, Laura Glazer, Amy Jacobson Kessler (Randy) and Louise Jacobson Obletz (Rory), and her three precious great-grandsons Aiden Middleberg and twins Spencer and Liam Kessler. Lillian was born December 9, 1920 in Lancaster, PA to the late Jack Lebed and Pauline Lebed Viener. She was predeceased by siblings Mamie Berry, Zelda Siegel, and Hartzel Lebed. Lillian was a life master bridge player which, she often said, kept her mind as sharp as a tack. She surrounded herself with beautiful things especially art and books. She took great pride in her garden that she nourished with her green thumb. Lillian was also an avid supporter of the arts and cultural institutions of New Orleans including, but in no way limited to, the Louisiana Philharmonic, Contemporary Arts Center, and New Orleans Museum of Art. She was president of the Louis A. and Lillian L. Glazer Family Foundation which continues to support her love of the arts, Jewish and nondenominational philanthropic organizations. Bubbie was also a wonderful cook who delighted in bringing her family and friends together to serve her delicious "square" matza balls. She loved her family and countless friends who will dearly miss her humor, wisdom and many hats.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the graveside service at Tikvat Shalom Cemetery (in Jefferson Memorial Gardens), 11316 River Road in St. Rose, LA on Monday, April 15, 2013 at 2:00 PM with Rabbi Ethan Linden officiating. A gathering will be held in Lillian's beloved Carol Apartments, 2100 St. Charles Ave, New Orleans, following the service.
