Joseph Vernon Delatte, Sr., age 73, died on March 20, 2017. Known as “Vernon” to his family, he is survived by his wife of 52 years, Diana; his children, Cheryl and Joseph; his granddaughter, Anna Grace Bordelon; and his brothers, Wilbert Delatte, Gary Delatte, and Eric Delatte. He is preceded in death by his mother, Irma Fontenot Delatte and his father, Emery Delatte. Born July 29, 1943 in Whitehall, LA, he moved to New Orleans where he graduated from Francis T. He worked as a meat cutter for National and Canal Villere for over 20 years, where he was a representative for the United Food and Commercial Workers Union, and he was owner of Delatte’s Electronics. A hardworking person throughout his life, he took retirement as an opportunity to practice his faith more deeply as a member of St. Philip Neri Church, serving in the Communion Ministry to the Homebound and attending mass daily. One of his greatest joys was his only grandchild. He will be forever remembered and deeply missed by family and friends. A visitation is scheduled at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home in Metairie on Wednesday, April 5, 2017 from 9:30-11:30 a.m. A funeral mass will follow at noon at St. Philip Neri Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lewy Bodies Dementia Association or the Parkinson’s Association.
