John William Schmidt Sr.

John William Schmidt, Sr., age 85 years, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Tuesday, September 14, 2010. Beloved husband of his loving wife of 63 years, Ruth Heintz Schmidt. Father of Joan S. Schenck, John W. Schmidt, Jr., and Daniel G. Schmidt. Grandfather of Sherri and Eric Dolese, Darren and Kelly Schmidt, Daniel, Kristen and Melissa Schmidt. Great grandfather of 5. John was an alumnus of Francis T. Nichols High School and was a member of its 1943 championship football team. He served his country proudly during WWII in the U.S. Army and retired after 42 years of service from NOPSI/Entergy Gas Department. He was a devoted family man and will be missed by family and friends. The family wishes to extend special thanks to John’s caregivers, the doctors, nurses, and staff of Canon Hospice during his final days. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Service at Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4900 Airline Drive, Metairie on Saturday, September 18, at 11:00 AM.
