John “Jerry” Hopkins, age 73, passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side, after a long illness. He is preceded in death by his parents, the late George J. Hopkins, Sr. and Eulalie Wirth Hopkins, his brother, John W. Crawford, Sr., and his mother-in-law, Shirley Merrigan Perez. He is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Susan Perez Hopkins, his children, Jason M. Leonard, and Melissa Leonard Knott (Kevin), his brother George J. Hopkins, Jr. (Joan), and grandchildren, Logann, Amelia, Aubrey, Lakenn, Mallory, and Griffin. Jerry was known by his loved ones as “Panny”. He is also survived by numerous Hopkins, Wirth, Crawford and Perez family members.
John “Jerry” was a member of the Krewe of Thoth for over 55 years and served as an officer for many years. He loved spending time hunting in Port Gibson, Mississippi. He graduated in 1963 from Redemptorist High School and was active in the Redemptorist Alumni Association. He was in the furniture industry for many years, having worked for Dixie Furniture and Comeaux Furniture. His true passion in life was spending time with his family and his grandchildren.
A Funeral Mass will be held at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Memorial Blvd., Metairie, Louisiana on August 3, 2018 at 1:00 pm, with Visitation from 10:00 am – 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his honor to the Thoth Charities and Lymphoma Society.
