John Friel Sr.

.John Friel, Sr. passed away on Thursday, October 21, 2011 after a long illness at the age of 76. He was the beloved husband of Audrey Guidry Friel, the loving father of John Friel, Jr. (Mary), Allan Friel, Daniel Friel (Rebecca), Elaine Friel, Gerard Friel and Michael Friel (Denise) and the step-father of Michelle Pool, Wendy Mader, Sandy Mader and Randy Mader. He was the devoted grandfather of 10 and the great-grandfather of 4 as well as the step-grandfather of Jerry Pool. He was the son of the late John Friel and Mary Boyd and the brother of Jean Hopkins (Matt), the late Cathy Robinson, Mamie McCaughley and Ella Cowan. He was a native of Glasgow, Scotland and a longtime resident of Metairie and a Celtic Football Supporter where he served as President of the New Orleans Chapter as well as an avid Saints fan. John “Scotty” retired from Avondale Shipyard as a Supervisor with 30 years of service.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Services at LEITZ/EAGAN FUNERAL HOME, 4747 VETERANS MEMORIAL BLVD, METAIRIE, LA 70006 on Thursday, October 27, 2011. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM and will last until 11:00 AM at which time a Mass of Christian Burial will be held in the Chapel of Leitz-Eagan.
