Ira Kohn

Ira Maurice Kohn, age 94, died at his residence on Saturday morning May 5, 2012 at 8:30AM.

Beloved husband of Betty Bloch Kohn, father of Frances(Fran) K. Koch(Julian) of Houston, Texas

and Robert M. Kohn(Mildred) of New Orleans, La. Brother of the late Mildred Kohn, Frances Kohn, and Dr. Mervin Kohn, grandfather of Benjamin J. Koch(Courtney), Ashley Funes and William Funes.

He was a native of Brooklyn, New York and a resident of New Orleans since 1948. He graduated from the University of Missouri with a degree in Business and served in WW II in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific and was discharged as at Lt. JG. His entire business career of over 60 years was as a manufacturers representative for textile trims and he was the President and owner of Ira M. Kohn Company. He was the former Vice-President of The Leader Store of Napoleanville, Louisiana. He was an active volunteer, board member and philanthropist serving many local organizations and was a 1984 recipient of the prestigious Weiss Award as well as a recipient in 2002 of the L’Chayim Award. His board affiliations included The Isidore Newman School Dads Club, Lakewood County Club, Touro Synagogue where he was former Board President and Brotherhood President, Anti-Defamation League, Willowood Home for Jewish Aged, Hebrew Rest Cemetery, Carol Condominium, Jewish Welfare Fund and Jewish Endowmen Fund and Family Service Society.

A Memorial Service will take place at Touro Synagogue, 4238 St. Charles Ave on Tuesday May 8, 2012 at 11AM with Rabbi Alexis Berk officiating followed by a reception in the Touro Synagogue Garden Pavilion.
